Hi!I am a breast feeding mum of an 11 week old and for a few days I've noticed pain in my left nipple and what looks almost like a blind pimple where my Montgomery gland is (well, one of them anyway)It felt like a little pea size lump just under the surface, I assumed it was a blocked duct so I gave it a rub and applied heat. It felt better until this morning when it was very painful and is now three times the size. Has anyone had this before and if so, how did they combat it?Thanks

I got these a few times when feeding. The Dr got me to pierce it with a sterile needle then hand express, pump or feed to clear the bad milk.

Hi Bazinga, excuse me if I am wrong but I think you are referring to your treatment of a milk bleb/white spot/milk blister/blocked nipple pore.
From what I am reading the OP seems to have a problem with one of the montgomery tubercles that are on the areola, so piercing with a needle could well make it worse. These glands secrete a lubricating substance (not milk )and squeezing etc can make the tubercle swell more. That sounds very painful OP, maybe some application of cold with help with inflammation but you might need to see the GP if it is troubling you, it may be infected. How is it today? |

You may need a course of antibiotics for this Montgomery gland, because it sounds like it is infected and it won't clear like a blockage does.
