So we move into our new place in February and I'm so excited that DS will have a yard as he grows. HOWEVER, it doesn't have any trees!!! I'd love to buy an immature tree (or two) now and establish it so that when DS is 8 or so, it will be perfect to climb and provide shade over a swingset etc.
Native would be great of course to attract birds and the like but does anyone have any ideas for a relatively fast growing tree - DS is only 10 weeks so we have a few years up our sleeves- that will have perfect low, sturdy branches for little ones to climb and sit in? |

Chinese Elm
We just moved from a house that had a gorgeous mature one of these. We undercut it and hung swings in it for our twins and my eldest DS climbed in it all the time. At Christmas I used to hang glass decorations in it and set the table up under it, it was such a cool place to sit. Ladybirds used to lay eggs in it and in Spring they would hatch everywhere! Very fast growing, can get very big but you can control it well. Semi - Deciduous. How exciting to be planning a new garden. Have fun with it. |
