Had my morph scan this morning, looks like #2 is a girl Now let me clarify, I know these things are not 100% accurate, so taking it with a grain of salt.

DS (3.5) had been guessing it's either a sister or a brother, depending on the day, but lately he has been more insistent that it's a brother. So this morning after the scan I said to him, 'ok it looks like you have a sister.'
Silence.
'No it's a brother.' So I left it at that.

So DH got home and I told him the news, he said to DS 'you're going to have a little sister!'
'NO! It's a BROTHER!' and proceeded to get quite sooky about the whole thing.

Now I know there is plenty of time for him to get used to the idea, just wondering how I should handle this. I don't want to force the issue only to find out the sonographer was wrong, but I don't want to let him think that he's getting the highly desired little brother only to resent his sister when she's born.

I'm sure there are many of you who have been in this predicament, how did you handle your childrens dissapointment in the gender of their siblings? Was it a non issue once they were actually born?

Ours isnt born yet but we had a similar reaction from DD1 although it was delayed.

DD! initially happy it was a boy then decided to throw a tantrum because she wanted another sister. I was a bit taken back!!

After a while I explained all the great things about this being a boy that would impact on her. I made it really relevant to her. E.g. you and your sister are the special girls etc and its great to have a boy so he can be the special boy. He probably wont want to snatch your dolls when he gets a bit older like DD2 does. you get the drift.

Now I hear her excited its a boy - as she already has a sister and doesnt need another one (funny). Now I really hope it is in fact a boy

I didn't want DS "disappointed" so asked people not to ask him what he wanted (a brother or sister) and we also taught him to answer if people did ask the question..."You don't get to choose, you get what you get and you don't get upset...either will be lovely"

So by the time we had our morph scan and they told us it was a girl he was happy either way. Oh and he was about the same age as your little one, so he turned 4 just before bub was born.

Good luck though, its hard when they get something in their little heads to change their minds!!!
