We watched the movie Dreamer yesterday and fell in love with the character Dakota Fanning plays "Cale". We looked it up and found the spelling Cael, as it is more common than Cale.

Thinking Cael Zakiya for our little one for a girl.

I know one Kael spelt with a K and he's a boy. Never heard it for a girl though?

behindthename lists it as masculine (and to me is the most reliable source) - and a top 1000 name for boys in the US. It also lists Cale as the short form of Caleb.

I don't hate it, but what about Chloe or Calla?

I haven't come across the middle name either, is it a form of Zakiah?

I love Zakiya very much. I've known a couple gorgeous ones, and it has a nice meaning. Well, I think one I knew spelt it Zakiyya and one spelt it Zakiah.

I keep reading Cael as Ka-El. I'm pretty sure that's not what I'm supposed to be doing to it, sorry. It's supposed to be one syllable?

Kale itself to me, pronunciation-wise, sounds either rather masculine or like it's lost half its Kayla/Kaylee etc. I'm pretty sure I've known 1-syllable Caels, though I don't know how they spelled it - but they were boys.

I like Zakiya more.

Makes me think of Superman - Kal El.

Or Kale - which is good for you but not that yummy.

Ignorance is not a point of view.
It sounds quite masculine to me.

But my DS has Gale as a mn, and while I think it sounds masculine, I got a lot of feedback on here that it was too feminine.

I think I would have a tendency to pronoune Cael as Ka-El, too.
