I knew I made a mistake giving DS a name ending in 's'.
I can never remember how to make it possessive or plural.

If I wanted to write the sentence 'Evelyn used to say Atlas's name 'ay-at', but now it's 'asses' ' (which is entirely true!) I would do it as above.
Is this correct in making his name his - possessive?
Is it the same as Atlas's toy, Atlas's book etc?

Where, if at all, would Atlas' come into it?

Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur.
the name is his, so you need to use a possessive apostrophe.

Atlas' is the acceptable way of making an S word into a possessive.

Atlas' hat, Atlas' name.

Atlas's is also correct, just not as tidy Tounge1.gif

Thanks NapCat. Neither of them looked right, but it's good to know I can use both without looking like a fool Tounge1.gif

I agree with Napcat.

I also agree that stick with Atlas' hat and not Atlas's hat, it may be considered correct but looks awful.

Yep both are correct... I used to work in print media and we were told that if you pronounced the second 's' you should use the second 's'... even though as PP said it doesn't look as tidy!

I prefer the second s. Unless the name ends with ss. Like Jess. Then it would be Jess' hat. But I've been taught both are correct.
