Hi everyone

I've had a blocked ear since Sunday. On Tuesday I went to the GP expecting her to say it was ear wax but instead she gave me ear drops for Swimmer's Ear

It's now Thursday and I still can't hear out of that ear. It's driving me nuts. I'm not convinced the ear drops are working, but I've never had Swimmer's Ear before. Does this just take time - should I just be patient? Or go back to the GP?

Go back. Get your GP to double check and compare both ears.

A similar thing happened to me not long ago and I spent weeks feeling horrible with a blocked ear. I thought my GP would say it was wax only he said no. In my case I had also been struggling with bad hayfever and he said it was to do with that. Which I think maybe it was initially. I went back again as it was still annoying me and he gave me something stronger but still it didn't get better and still he said there was no wax. It got so bad that I felt almost numb on one side of my face and had some swelling. I ended up going to hospital that day. By that time I did actually have some wax which was lining the ear drum so it wasnt obvious and had to use that wax softener ear drop stuff and my GP syringed it 5 days later.

I'm prone to Swimmer's Ear and have had to use the drops and found in my case it took about 4-5 days before I started to hear again. I also found it seemed to get worse before waking up one day it was better. Luckily I only get it in one ear so I can turn to the other side to hear.

Stick with the time frame your doctor gave for the drops and if it still isn't better than definitely go back.

go back to your GP. I had swimmers ear earlier this year, First off I was given ear drops only, 7 days later it still hadn't cleared up. I went back and was given antibiotics on top of the ear drops - that cleared it up (it took just over two weeks for it to clear up). It was painful, and annoying - I felt if I had the sea in there.

Reading this with interest, I have had swimmers ear for 2 days now and it is driving me bonkers. I have a constant ringing in the ear and cannot hear out of that ear (luckily the other ear is OK). Its starting to ache now too which is even more annoying
