by desexing a male puppy at 6 months, is that definitely stopping him from ever cocking his leg? We want an inside dog but I'm worried if we end up getting a male, what if we can't prevent him from evuntually cocking his leg?

My male was desexed very young by the RSPCA, and he still c**ks his leg occasionally. It's a natural thing for a dog to do. Why do you want him to not do it?

My dog was cocking his leg when I got him desexed, Mum's dog was still squatting when he was desexed and continued squatting until he died 12 years later.
So I think it does have an effect on them. ETA: I think I read your post wrong, are you concerned about him 'marking his terriorty'? This post has been edited by Bwok~Bwok: 21/11/2012, 05:39 PM |

My males always cocked their leg to pee. Didn't mean they peed inside. Are you concerned about the literal cocking itself (I can't imagine, but I guess someone might be...) or p*ssing in the house? They don't do that automatically as like a male thing. Even undesexed ones don't.

Do you think he would do it inside? That certainly doent stop them.
Our pup was desexed at 4mths, and he is now 4 years and is just starting to c*ck his leg now, much to DH relief. We had got him at 9 weeks old, and he was house trained in 2 weeks, only one accident ever since. This post has been edited by Flaxen: 21/11/2012, 05:43 PM |

Some females even learn to lift their leg to pee! If you desex a male dog early you may reduce his drive to mark every single lamp pole and stone along the walk by peeing on it!

I'm a bit confused. Do you mean you just want him to be house trained (and not wee inside) or do you not want him to lift his leg when he wees at all?
Both my boy dogs were desexed at a young age (one at about two months, I think) and ne at about four months (he was from a pound and in a terrible condition so was hard to guess his age). Both eventually learned to c*ck a leg, although both still sometimes wee like girls. Both are completely toilet trained, despite the leg cocking and have never scent marked inside, either. I always thought dogs marked spots where other dogs had marked, mostly, and it this is why they tend not to do it inside? I could be totally off track? |

My cavvy was desexed around 6 months or so old. He still c**ks his leg. Infact he's double jointed so when he does, he lifts his leg that high up that he pee's out between his front legs! Quite a sight to see!!
