Has anyone read this series yet? it was going to be what I moved onto next, but then I saw that they have turned it into a movie, usually when that happens I wind up disappointed in the movie for not following close enough to the book (minus a few exceptions), so am wondering if I should read it now like I planned or leave it until later?

I've read it. It's very YA in terms of the whole unrequited love and no-one ever talking to each other properly, it's also fairly obviously based on a fan-fic like 50 Shades was except this one is based loosely on Harry Potter. It's not bad though and one thing it's got going for it is an obviously non-white gay main character.
Personally I think it's going to be one of those movies where the book is so much better or the storyline is so changed it's not worth seeing the movie, as in "The Dark is Rising" and "The Golden Compass". |

I have read the whole series (currently at five books with the conclusion next year) and have enjoyed them.
Like the pp said two of the lead characters fall in love and are gay. Which is refreshing. However I actually prefer the prequel series the infernal devices. It's set in the Victorian era and very 'steampunk' genre. Less teenage angst and more mature. Even though it's still very much paranormal romance. I prefer the lead characters as well. I think she is a fun author. |
