Hi Ladies,

I'm really showing my ignorance but just don't know... should I be washing bub's clothes and sheets etc separately from DH'S and mine and is there a good brand to use that's gentle on baby skin?

I've always washed my baby's clothes with the rest of the family's clothes. We used Earth Choice laundry liquid which was mild.

I spent hours looking into this before DD was born, and concluded that there is no conclusion! You'll read heaps of conflicting advice - I tried several eco type powders and found that the poo was still on stuff after washing. I now use Lux flakes on everything, in our front loader - I just use less (about 1/8C) dissolved in boiling water and thrown in the machine with clothes. Works like a charm, no perfumes, two thumbs up!

You probably don't HAVE to, but I do 99% of the time.

Everything gets sprayed with Preen Vanish, soaked in Napisan but then washed in a non-toxic detergent. I use Method, because I used to work for the company who sell it.

Her stuff comes out softer than my own washing, and I am just happier using non-toxic for DD.

For the record, I don't use any product in her bath either, other than Coconut Oul which is completely natural.

I don't think it's necessary unless the baby actually has an allergy or sensitivity.

I have always just made sure we use the appropriate amount of detergent (usually less than recommended due to our 'soft' water) and rinse well so there is minimal detergent residue.

I did initially with DS1 when I thought he was sensitive to our choice washing powder, which as he grew went away thankfully. Now with DS2 we use the same for all. Glad to not be making work for myself!

I alternate, get whatever is on special and add a softener. Oh and with stains, napisan soak then preen spray before the wash works a treat

I did for the first eight months or so. I used Purity liquid which you can get at most supermarkets. Not sure that you really need to but my DD is sensitive to baby bath wash and most nappy creams too so I continued to use it until her skin seemed less reactive.

I do wash my baby's clothes separately as I put his through on a hotter wash (to kill any germs, and get food etc off his clothes). I definitely wouldn't wash his clothes with kitchen tea towels, underwear etc.I just use normal detergent.

We now use Earths Choice for everything. I started out using it for just the nappies and then noticed that the clothes that found there way into the nappy wash came out cleaner and softer than the clothes in the regular wash so I ditched my regular detergent and switched over to Earths Choice for all our washing.
