christmas is on a very tight budget this year so please share your ideas for cheap but nice presents, for all ages.

Someone I know was laid off before christmas a couple of years ago and instead of gifts she gave out gift certificates for favours. Some people got babysitting ones, someone else got a lawn mowing one, car washing, etc. The family liked it so much that they now all do it for each other at christmas every year. The younger kids give their parents washing up ones, or gardening, etc, and the adults give each other babysitting, or ones to make a meal for someone. I think it's a really great idea. Wish I could convince my family to do it.

I would be stoked to get a voucher for favours - especially anything to do with babysitting or household chores. In fact I kind of wish my friends or family would do this instead of spending hundreds of dollars on gifts we don't want/need.

Another idea is to go to a charity organisation (eg World Vision) where you can pay a few bucks to provide pencils for schools in third world countries, a duck for a family, etc. They don't cost a lot but it's a lovely idea. I think WV you can also get a card sent to the recipient explaining what you purchased as an xmas gift for them, but somebody in need benefits from it.
