I am so in need of ideas for healthy snacks for my 14 month old boy. He has (and loves) weetbix for breakfast, and throughout the day he might have a tub of yogurt, sandwich (need new ideas for lunch), and I buy Heinz Little Kidz vegemite & cheese sticks, and some rice crackers...I try and get some steamed apple in there as well sometimes (when can kids start eating non-mushed fruit?). I also have the Raffertys gardens packs in the pantry for emergencies. For dinner I try to give him some veg/pasta/meat, sometimes it is just good old spag bol...
Any ideas/suggestions of exciting food would be great!! Thanks |

My DD likes....
Lunch...sandwiches (vegemite/smooth peanut butter/cream cheese and pickle/tuna and cream cheese mixed together), occasionally baked beans and a slice of bread, vegie soup, a cut up sausage with a slice of bread and sauce, cut up vegies with cheese cubes or boiled egg, scrambled egg with toast. Dinner....what ever we're having just mushed a bit but she loves risoni with vegies and tomatoes, home-made risotto, fish and vegies, casseroles. Snacks... Jatz crackers and cheese, raisins, cut up pieces of watermelon/cantalope/fresh pinapple, banana, vita wheats, small dry peices of cereal, milk, yoghurt, strawberries, rice crackers. Hope this helps, your child can have fresh fruit as long as he can chew it, just watch him the first few times then go for it! |

My daughter's fave lunch meal atm is toasted wraps with avo, cheese and grated apple/pear. She also loves craisins. Crackers and dip (hummus or tzatziki). The loves meatballs (chicken, beef or turkey) with grated zucchini and carrot and pureed apple/pear. I make up a batch and freeze half them raw. Baked vegies and wholemeal penne pasta are also a great side dish. She also likes mini savoury muffins.
She really likes most finger foods as she can do it herself. |

I hadn't thought of adding fruit to meatballs...I struggle to get him to eat much meat...I might try that though! |

I got the recipe from better homes and gardens- can't find it atm. The puree makes them lovely and moist. I also add in a handful of oats and 1 egg. I bake them in the oven for about 15 mins.
I tried the meatballs as she wasn't fussed on meat for ages. She only lately is becoming more adventurous and trying meats. I believe it was a textural thing for her. |

You can totally offer real fruit - mango, berries, bananas, nectarines, grapes (in halves) etc.
Real cheese as opposed to cheese sticks. Cottage cheese. Veggie muffins with cheese, carrot and zucchini. Rissoles/meatballs/sausages/fishcakes Cous cous with veggies. Corn on the cob (cut in half so he can hold it) Steamed peas/beans with persian feta or creme fraiche. Ravioli Chicken drumsticks |

I think you can offer most things in bite sizes at 14 months. My girls ate chicken or veal schnitzel in little bits, chicken and noodle veg and noodle soup was a favourite, macaroni and cheese sause, soft boiled eggs with soft toast, baked beans from a tin on toast, Plain rice or rice with a bit of tuna from a tin fruit was things like watermelon, lasagna, grapes cut in half (I was paranoid of choking), kiwi fruit, rockmelon, soft pears cut up. I didnt give raw apples for a while.
DD2 liked her food very soft at that age - mashed up mostly. DD1 hated mashed food and prefered bits she could pick up I saw my neice who is 15 months eating couscous they other day and loving it - i never thought to give that. |

I make lots of different risottos as it is an easy way to get lots of vegies in.
A quick way to do it is to make a soup and mix cooked rice in. DD daily food intake is usually: porridge or weetbix for breakfast banana (or other fruit) morning tea and crackers and cheese risotto lunch cracker and hommus afternoon tea and yoghurt and fruit meat, veg, potatoes for dinner We try to give her as little sugar or processed foods as possible so I also make her: -pikelets -savoury muffins -mini omelette -mini pasties and then freeze and use when necessary, it is a lot of cooking though. I still batch cook for her so serves of pasta and bolognaise sauce, soup, risotto, veggies and rice, shepherds pie. |

ds is 12 months almost 13 months and he eats anything we eat, no restrictions except not junkfood.
Grapes cut in half, cherries cut in half, apples cut in quarters, watermelon, rockmelon, kiwi fruit, blueberries, raspberries, mandarins, oranges etc, etc All vegies cut up and steamed. Meats/dinners - sausage, lasagna, spag bol, snitzel, chicken breast, steak, rice - whatever we are having. Breakfasts - pancake, fruit toast, eggs scrambled. snacks - fruit, muffins, sultanas, cranberries, crackers, cereal, croissants, fritz, etc, etc the only thing he doesn't really eat is popcorn, junk, fish, bacon. |
