DS2 is having a Lego birthday party. I have a mould to make Lego bricks and I was going to do them with candy melts, but the colours aren't as bold as actual Lego colours. Can I colour the candy melts with gel colours? (eg, I would add yellow to yellow candy melts)
Thanks! R |

Apparently it seizes if you use gel colour, I did read that you can add oil if this happens. You should use powder colour.
Google Bakerella, she has some good tutorials. I was watching cake pops last night using candy melts. |

Go to House and ask advice. There is an additive you can get that allows you to do it - I heard it at a cake pop demo, but I was a bit distracted by the kids climbing up, trying to steal the cake pops!

Wilton make Candy colours - colours specifically for chocolate/candy melts, Americolor also make a colouring for candy melts/chocolate - they are oil based rather than water based as per gel. I have used the Wilton ones without any problem at all, although the other week I needed pink chocolate and was sure I had some red in teh cupboard, I ,elted the choc and pulled out the box - no red (oh I remembered I used it all on Elmo cake pops the other month) panic panic google and I used Wilton gel colouring which thickened the chocolate (but did not seize it fortunately)so I thinned it with a little melted copha and it was perfect.

I used coloured fondant when i did my lego bits using the silcone moulds. They came out much easier than the candy melts (I tried them first).

I used coloured fondant when i did my lego bits using the silcone moulds. They came out much easier than the candy melts (I tried them first). Did you just press the fondant into the moulds? I assumed the candy melts would come out as easily as chocolates do and hold their shape better than fondant. I will try our local Kitchen Warehouse for candy colours and advice - it's massive and usually there's someone who actually seems to know what they're talking about. |
