We have a 3 bed (small), 1 bath, one living area (combined lounge, dining, kitchen) home with a small deck & yard. We have one child & plan to have 2 more. We'd always thought we could stay in this home until our oldest was around 10-12 (youngest probably 6 by then). Reading the other thread has made me wonder... Is this really practical? Do other people love in small homes (or apartments even!) with 3 kids?

3 kids in a 2 bedroom plus sleep out, one bathroom home here.
If we had anything bigger it would take longer to clean!

My oldest is 12. The house is definitely now too small. It did all right until now though.

Of course it is. Don't get suck into the belief that you need a big house for kids.

Only a generation ago it was very common for 3 kids to be raised in a 3brm, 1 bath home. This generation has an obsession with massive homes.

Of course they do, I grew up in a vey small 3x1 and there were 5 kids!

I grew up with my parents and three kids in a 1 living room, 1 bathroom/toilet 3 bedroom house.

It was fine, never thought anything of it. I certainly never thought it was too small!
I remember growing up thinking how boring our house looked and have always loved older homes with character.
Now that i'm an adult I finally have an older home. Usually these homes in their original state only do have 2-3 bedrooms.

Yes. We had 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom/toilet , 1 living room with 4 kids and 2 adults. We put an extension on just before we got pregnant with #5, it was nice but we could have lived without it.

I currently live in this with kids 3, 5 & 7yrs. Our 'yard' is 5x5m so tiny.

We are feeling how small the place is now.

Problem is I love the area. To get a bigger place would mean an extra $1m which we don't have, so I will complain, dream of extending up or purchasing a bigger block, but we live here.

Hopefully by the time DS1 is 10-12yrs we will be able to purchase a bigger place.

My sanity is probably the thing more at risk. As the Boys (5 & 7yrs) share a room it is not as if I can send them to their rooms if they are fighting LOL!!!

We have 3 kids in a small 3 bedroom home. My only grip at the moment (they are 3, 6 and 8) is no storage, but that has nothing to number of people. I am thinking we will have to think about renovating or moving in 5 years or so.
