Im in need of some low sodium foods for kids party. I will have a few lollies there for them, but one of the boys has nephrotic sydrome and is on a LOW sodium diet so instead of saying no to him for just about everything i would normally let them eat for their party i just wont have those kinds of foods there meaning no party pies, chips, sausages etc...

ill find out tomorrow if my baby is allergic to nuts too so they may need too be nut free too!

I'm doing cut up fruits on a stick, if i can find some low sodium bread ill do fairy bread, i think ill do jelly too in a cone or in a cup with a freddo?

hes still on the mend and not all that well so i dont want to let him have too much bad foods but dont want him to completely miss out.

hes allowed 120mg sodium per 100g

Unfortunately most bread in Australia is high in sodium- I just checked it out for my Dad who was visiting from Canada. Ask his Mum if they use a certain brand of bread.

Also air popped popcorn should be ok- get a brown paper lunch bag avialable at woolies, put in raw popcorn, spray with a light spray of oil spray stuff, fold top of bag and put in the microwave for about 2 minutes. You might need to try a few times to get the right time. My microwave takes 3 minutes for about 1/4-/12 cup of popcorn. You can tell it is done when there is lots of popping close together and it starts to slow a bit. I take out the popped popcorn and put the rest back in. I have also burnt a lot until I knew my times!

-Could you do homemade meat pies or sausage rolls? I am not sure how much sodium is in basic pastry, but you could make a meat filling with less sodium. But I use spaghetti sauce for a meat pie base and that has lots of sodium in it. My husband says to use basic tomato sauce- I think the woolies brand is actually the best.

-Might sound silly but you can make chips out of all sorts of vegetables- KAle, beatroot, sweet potatoes- coudl beinteresting and colourful
- I make chips out of lebanese flat bread- use a spread nad garlic powder- or just toast the bread in the oven and serve with a dip- some kids like sour cream and chive dip etc, hommus

sorry, that is all I can think of. Good luck

That's so nice of you to make that party food all suitable for him, things like that make a big difference when a kid already feels different.

How about things like:
home made oven dried apple chips
Chicken wings (BBQ or oven cooked) - marinate yourself in something not salty, like olive oil, garlic, herbs and lemon with a brush of honey for stickiness when nearly done?
Pikelets with unsalted butter and hundreds of thousands
Orange halves filled with jelly, then cut in half again
Decorated mini meringue type things

Thanks for the ideas! ill give some a go this week and see if the kids like them, then ill make for the party!

home made chips are a good idea! i think ill have to buy one of those dryer thingys you can make veg chips in!

Pastry alone has more than double what hes allowed! i never realised how much sodium is in EVERYTHING! i havent found a bread that hes allowed to have yet. Even self raising flour has too much sodium!

sorry! we have all boys and always refer to them as the boys lol so i didnt mean one of the kids coming, i meant its our boy! :-) (my step son)

hes only just been diagnosed and out of hospital a week now so we are still new to finding foods that will suit his new diet & that a 2.5 yr old will like! although hes not overly fussy! in saying that though his mother does say he wont eat hardly anything for her just bread and corn and bits and pieces, everything i seem to hand him he eats straight away! (when i say hand him its because i dont ask do you want this because the answer is always no, if i just hand it to him he eats it!)

Fruit skewers
Unsalted popcorn
Pikelets made with unsalted butter and served with jam
frog in the pond made with jelly and freddo is a good idea
I'm sure there'd be some kind of low-sodium chicken marinade for chicken wings.

WELCOME TO MY WORLD
strawberries dipped in chocolate or if you have a chocolate fountain get some fruit to dip in the chocolate.

air popped popcorn (you can get cheap machines that do this)

fruit punch

Not sure about arrowroot biscuits, but they can decorate their own with icing sugar and put lollies on them
