My DH had his tonsils out last week on 8th November. I posted a thread asking for recovery hints and tips.

Tonight I had to ring an ambulance to take him back to hospital. He left about 15 minutes ago. He has had a bleed in his throat and has been coughing/vomiting up clots and lots of blood. Very scary. It wouldn't stop.

Our 2yo DD is a bit freaked out by it all (she was awake).

I've rung my mum and told her.

Now what do I do? Try to sleep? Obviously I have to get DD back to bed. When should I call the hospital to check on him? He's gone back to the private hospital where the surgery was done.

I've never been in this situation before. Just a bit unsure of everything.

Any advice?

This is a Formal Cheese occasion.
How scary! Did he take a mobile phone? I would call the hospital and see what the best way to get updates is.

No he didn't take his mobile. Just the basics like Medicare card and PHI card, and the business card with the surgeon's after hours mobile number on it.

I think that I'll try to get DD to bed and then ring the hospital. Currently she is dancing around the lounge room with a little guitar and rocking out to Guns N' Roses "Sweet Child Of Mine" on Rage.

Might take a little while to get her to settle down!

DH should be fine. He might need further surgery to stitch up any bleeding. Apparently the chances of that are only 1/100 but I guess that he might need it after all.

Toddler has been wrangled and put back to bed. She gave me some extra hugs and kisses before I was allowed to leave her room but is okay with the fact that Daddy has gone to hospital.

DH rang me about 10 minutes ago. He is having surgery as soon as the surgeon arrives at the hospital. He was triaged as the highest priority there, and is actually the second tonsillectomy patient to go in tonight with a bleed. That made him feel a bit better, but also a bit worried.

I rang my mum and updated her. She hadn't managed to go back to sleep anyway. I think that she will now that we know what is happening.

I'm off to bed now.

Hospitals don't sleep so if you're awake just call them for an update.

Good luck with it all and hope DH comes home quickly.

Argh, I wish I hadn't read this now as I was only talking to DH yesterday about booking in for mine. That must have been very scary for you all. I hope his second surgery went well though and he can recover now.
