Trust me... I'm a scientician
I've had a quick look around the shops, but wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of an alternative to a traitional bassinette?

I'd like something sturdy, but portable. DH is a shift worker, so while it would be nice to set up the cot in our room I don't think it will be practical.

I find traditional bassinette so ugly, I'm very much a 'no-frills' person! I like the look of the Moses basket, and I've seen them sold with a stand, not sure how sturdy these are? Old fashioned wooden cradles are beautiful, but all I've seen are too dear for my budget.

Any suggestions appreciated original.gif

My SIl had these really nice plain dark wood ones with mesh for her twins. They were on wheels, very modern looking and lovely. Try Baby Bunting. I think that is where she got them.

A basinette is GREAT. I had one (but a borrowed old fashioned one) and they are great. So flexible, whell them around the house to suit your needs.

We've got DD in a Pod Seed Organic moses basket, which is really sturdy. The stand isn't terribly portable, but I like how solid this makes it - in the early days we would carry the whole thing out to the lounge from our room, but as she got bigger we just used the basket for day time. And it's pretty without being frou frou!

We had a rectangular bassinet in a wooden frame on wheels. Fantastic, could move it around the house, and it has mesh sides for good airflow. They grow out of them fast though. Google king parrot bassinet or check out boori ones

They are larger than bassinets and just look like a mini cot.

We used a baby hammock that came with an attachment to hang it from door frames or in a cupboard which made it very portable.

We bought the Tasman Eco Amore Bassinette today for this bub. We like the simplicity of the look and it goes with the change table we have. It's also the only one recommend by Choice

What pram will you be using?

I have the Baby Jogger City Select and my DD slept in the pram bassinette until she was about 16 weeks old. I rolled up a towel and put it under the head end so it was on an angle (like the buckets the babies are in when they are in hospital).

It was great - portable & sturdy.

hammocks arent really portable - unless you have a spare hook from the ceiling or a door that the hosts don't mind a hammock being attached to the other side then they would have to realise not to bang/close the door...

how about a moses basket on a stand?
