I am looking for a new rug. A rug that will hide all the yuck kids stains. We have an expensive rug and no matter how careful I am and psycho about cleaning it if they spill something on it, it still looks yuck. I have found some shag rugs with lots of colours in them but does food etc get stuck in them? My kids are good at making a mess (like dropping chips etc).

So are they any good for children?

Used to have one. It was good but it got pretty grubby - but it came pretty clean with regular vacuuming.

My biggest issue was that I kept getting fluff off it all over the place.

We were given a white one by family. Can't wait to get rid of the bloody thing!
Not only does food get stuck....but also spiders. I have found two, so far, that the vacuum (dyson) couldn't dislodge.
If we were single with no pets it would be lovely. But with 2 cats and 2 young kids it's been painful.

If you decide you want one, I have one I will give you. wink.gif

We have 2 black ones and it disgusting !! My dyson can not get anything out if it. OH and I have to pick it up and bat it old style - what comes out of it I can't believe !!

But it always looks clean because you can't see the stuff inside original.gif

Another one here who obviously has her mind in the gutter when reading the topic title. Lol! I have visions of fluffy bear skin in front of the open fire blush.gif

Took my shag rug out today to the back yard for cleaning. Truly, without any exageration, it had at least a large packet worth of sultanas stuck within it. Not to mention the bits of cheese and other stuff. My vacuum cleaner just doesn't pick it up. And no matter how many times I tell the kids not to eat on the rug, it still somehow manages to get full of gunk. I have to take it out every month and give it a good beating.

I wouldn't buy one. The only reason I have it is because someone gave it to me. It is a lovely rug though. Without kids would be great. Also recently the cat has taken to peeing on it. And it is jolly hard to get cat pee out of a shag pile.

Having just purchased 2 new shag rugs, I am now obsessing about hidden spiders! It is true that you can not see things in them. My dd dropped her craft beads in there and they disappeared. On a more positive note they feel nice on the feet.
