Hi all I have a 12month old cocker spaniel and a 6 week old baby girl(first baby) and the spaniel ties to sit ome while I am feeding bub. I get angry with the dog which then bub picks up on my stress. I have tried putting spaniel in laundry(where he sleeps at night) when feed but he howls the house down (which stresses me out even more) Does anyone have any recommendations of how to go about getting the spaniel to accept the new baby, not be jealous of her? Any help is greatly appreciatedThanks

Firstly I would crate train. I think there is sticky at the top of the forum about how to do it.

Everytme you need to attend the baby and don't want dog underfoot I would pop in crate. You also need to do some training. A dog should never jump on their owner without being asked. It's a dominant action.

But yes your dog is probably confused and upset with ths new little person getting all the attention.
At 12 months old the dog is not far of being a baby himself.

Now the dog s going through the difficult adolescent stage, and like an unruly teenager is pushing the boundaries. So training and establishing dog in its place in the pack is important.

Crates are good because they can still see what's going on around them ( if the crate is placed in the living area) and don't feel excluded but also give you a break. Once your baby in crawling it will also be handy to give the dog a break from the baby!

It would have been better to crate train before baby was born but it's still not to late.
