Hi I hope I am not upsetting any members with unsettled newborns but I need some advice on my 2.5 week old boy who often lays awake in his cot after I put him down for a sleep.
We are on 3 hourly scheduled feeds because of slight diarrhea at the moment which means I often have to wake him from a sleep. During the day I feed, we play a little (around 10 minutes of singing or tummy time or just making faces and talking) until he starts to show signs of tiredness (yawns, fists, cross eyes, jerky legs) and then I put him down for a sleep. Sometime he lays in his cot for over an hour after I put him down, he is quiet, looking around but seems quite content but he doesn't sleep. Just wondering if anyone else has a bub like that and whether I should get him out for a cuddle or more play after a certain time cause I feel a little bad just leaving him there by himself??? TIA |

Wow...quiet, fed and content and alert in his cot for one hour? Pretty amazing for a two week old.
I don't have any advice, my bub was a sleepy boy...drank and slept at two weeks. But if it were me, I would not be worried if he was alert and content. However I will try to continue looking out for tired signs as overtired baby is hard to settle. |

This often happens with my nearly 2wk old. I'm not sure if I'm being cruel by leaving him in his cot or if it's a good thing.

I never had your problem, DS wouldn't go in a cot without screaming until 6 months
However have you tried having him in a sling like the hugabub? He can still look around content but still be with you (I'd feel really uneasy leaving him alone like that, but that's me). He would drift off when he was ready and then you could put him down in the cot to finish his sleep. Not sure if that would work for you but I found it worked really well for DS. |

Personally, I would probably leave him, but I understand how you feel
Maybe you could have a lie down in the room with him and get some rest yourself. That way you're close to him and keeping him company, and if you get a bit more rest, even better. By 4-5 weeks my DS stopped sleeping more than one or two cat naps during the day, and it was so hard seeing as I hadn't caught up on sleep from his birth. |

DD was like that. Even now, at 3 1/2, she will lie in bed for at least 1/2hr talking to herself before going to sleep. She has just always seemed to need down time before being able to sleep.
DS going to sleep straight away, but keeping him alseep in another matter.. |
