Hi there. Was wondering if anyone has used the counselling service at Genea Sydney? Was it worth while? I have never seen a counsellor before but think I may need some help this time around.Any feedback would be appreciated.Thx

I see someone privately (because I don't go through Genea, though I am able to use her if I choose) and my counsellor recommends her highly, if that helps.

I don't use Genea (I'm in Melbourne) but I saw the councellor at my clinic a number of times, and so did my DH, and we both found it REALLY helpful. I really liked that she had access to my file and obviously understood the process so I didn't have to explain anything, could just vent really... And my clinic included one free session each cycle which was a bonus.

They were then really lovely and after a particularly crappy time, they gave me another 2 sessions for free :-)

If you feel you need to, or could benefit from talking to someone, it can't hurt to start with the clinic counsellor to see if you "click".

Good Luck
xoxo

We just did the compulsory counselling session with G and the lady we used was great and I wouldn't have hesitated going back to her if I needed to. She is very experienced and managed to even get a few words out of my DH who is not a "counselling" type of guy!

Hi Mumagain, the counselling is compulsory for anyone about to do a PGD cycle at Genea in Sydney (as well as visit with nurses & PGD scientist). I was able to go individually. Although we didn't "click" I know that there are several different counsellors so it may be about finding one that suits you.

I have since used a counsellor referred by my GP who "gets" me & that has been great.

My advice is, if one doesn't suit, keep trying until you get somebody you feel comfortabe with.

Hope this helps!!

& Good luck.!!!

Yes, saw one individually and then they had a group session which was awesome. It was for women who had had a couple of failed cycles and a few of us had suffered m/cs as well. They were such an awesome group and although we went through quite a few tissues it was a great relief and very cathartic. You may want to check with them to see if they have more group sessions coming up.

I also saw a separate psych, if you can find someone you click with that really is worthwhile.
