So this is a MIL anti-vent, but feel I need to redress the balance! My MIL came to stay last weekend (she's regional NSW we are in Sydney) .....

On Saturday DH took DS to swimming and I was schlepping around in my pjs still deciding what to do (and once resolved on something didn't do it)..I told her to relax and read some magazines ....so she, in WANTON DISREGARD of my previous order to sit around and relax: ironed all of DH's shirts for the week (I don't iron.ever), swept the leaves off our patio and pruned the lemon tree. She also, at some point (I don't know when) cleaned out my entire linen closet! I hadn't looked in it since last week (did I mention I'm not much of a house keeper?) and seriously it looks like Martha Stewart has exploded in there ...every towel, every sheet folded to within an inch of their life, even the fitted sheets!!!

And..she even shared what I am sure is an old wives tale..but the baby is constipated poor thing, she said to sprinkle a little bit of sugar on his puréed pear....and it worked! He's much happier now.

So MIL...thank you

That's lovely. My MIL is great as well, I'm blessed to have in my life. she treats me like one of her own and I had no idea a woman could be as fabulous as she is.

Nawww your MIL sounds like mine. She is wonderful. I have had the odd clash with my FIL but I just bite my tongue and tell my DH. My mum liked her MIL as well. I know there are some crazy people out there but I don't think all the MIL vents on here are the MIL's fault 100% I am sure the DIL's play a part. I also think in some cases these MIL's brought up your DH, most people get a few things from their parents of course this is not in all cases as I know people with crazy MIL's and FIL's whose children are nothing like them.

My MIL is an angel. Her attitude is that if she's available to help out, she will. She has been taking one dd to dancing for the last few months as I can't get home in time from work to get her there, and she has stepped in when my Family Day Carer had to cancel some mornings that co-incided with ds's preschool.

I try very hard not to ask things of her as I know she's extremely busy. But whenever she does she does it with grace and generosity. I hope my children take after her. (She did a pretty good job with her ds too )

Currently I am in two minds about telling her we are going away for the evening - on one hand, she may come in here and tidy up and clean - but on the other hand, she may come in here and tidy up and clean...

Caring and thinks I am a great mother and wife.

I definately won in the MIL lotto.

Mind you I wouldn't mind if she came over and did chores too!

I have a great MIL. She put up with an interfering MIL so will always wait to be asked for help. When we do ask she helps with no complaint.

Yes, she is flabbergasted that I don't iron and thinks babies should be popped in the cot to fall asleep on their own crying or no crying but she always respects how we operate and never tries to do things her way.

I respect her opinion and we can have great talks about our different parenting styles. Offers advice but never gets cranky if I decide to carry on with what I think is right.

I respect her and vice versa.

I'm lucky.
