Ours was $1000 for 68 people, with beer, wine (incl sparkling) and softdrink only. We paid by the bottle for wine ($15 each) and the tab ran out after about 4.5 hours. This was with some people not drinking at all, and some drinking lots

Had a vision of weding guests watching a horse race. Actually when DH and his best man were driving to the churchfor our wedding they had to stop at the pub so BM could put a bet on. With regards to bar tab, I honestly can't remember (25 years ago) in fact the whole day is pretty much a blur.

I think ours was $800 for about 60ish people (we ended up with money back!), it included beer, wine, spirits and soft drink. We had our reception at a venue that allowed us to pre purchase our spirits and wine from a bottle shop which they then served, so the bar covered everything else that we had not already purchased.
It worked out much cheaper than what we expected as most people drank spirits so a lot of the tab was for the mixers. |

We are having a wedding with 44 people (8 are children who obviously wouldn't drink). Many people will have to drive. The guy from our most likely place of choice said he would advise a tab of around $800 for that many people but the 4 hr package ends up only $200 more than that so I wasn't sure whether it's worth paying the extra or just going with a tab. I think only half the people will drink too as they have to drive.
I wonder if they would allow us to provide our own bottles like PP's said. Bottle of red, white and bubbly for toasting on each table. |

We just had our wedding reception a few weeks ago at a cocktail lounge in Melbourne and the bar tab was $2800 for 49 people. I would say that maybe 1/2 to 2/3 of the guests are heavy drinkers. The drinks menu was pretty extensive - we had the tab open to beers under $10 per glass/bottle, wines (including sparkling) under $15 per glass, liquers under $12 per glass, and open to soft drinks, juice, sparkling water and tea/coffee. Originally we thought we would be spending $5k on the drinks so the tab at the end of the night was a great surprise bonus. The tab was open from 6pm to 1am, but I would say that most people had gone by around 11pm or midnight.
The venue gave us an option for a drinks package which was $120 per person for the time we wanted - so happy that we didn't opt for that! I have heard repeatedly that having a tab is almost certainly less expensive than a drinks package. |

About 80 guests an we put $2000 on the bar, with the intention to probably up it, depending on the time. We only spent $1000! So... we didn't need to up it and got money back

I just went to a wedding where the bar was $15 per person, per hour. I think it was something like $15k on grog. Let's just say the bar was well used...
