Well not a great start to the day. after racing around cleaning my house and getting things ready my 11am interview has asked to be interviewed on monday now. aarrgghh. im so nervous as it is now i have to sit and wait for my 12pm app.
what would you do if your applicant asked to postpone on the day of the interview?

also any last minute tips would be great.

I guess it would depend on the reason but postponing on the day of the interview does seem a bit unprofessional and would probably put me off a bit.
It's important to me that a nanny is reliable as if they cancel at short notice it would cost me time off work/loss of wages so it wouldn't be a good sign for me if they couldn't even make the scheduled interview time (unless they had a really good reason of course)

I guess that would be my next point. this nanny has kids in highschool so her kids will take priorty of mine which means i would have to take time off if she cant make it. mmmm..... will see what she says on monday.

That would be a big red flag for me. One of the reasons I am happy to pay for a nanny is that she is reliable and little problems rarely impact on my ability to work.

She is punctual, other than a couple of times she has had PT issues where buses just didn't turn up. She rarely takes time off and I know she will be here. That peace of mind is important to me.

My nanny is older and her children are in their 20s so I know she will be there wheni need her.

Other than that I would be asking things like how she plans to deal with discipline and her general parenting philosophy as she is standing in for you when you are not there.

Also, what else is she willing to do in the down times? Eg, my 2 year old has a big sleep during the day and in that time she does the ironing for me. If she has other down time she will do little jobs she sees need doing such as a quick vac of the main living area if a lot of crumbs have been dropped or playdoh was used etc. She does a quick tidy toward the end of the day so I don't come home to a bomb site. That is nice, I don't want to come home and pack up a million toys and dishes that have been used while I was at work.

I just done my first interview and i really really like her. she was great. she interacted wonderfully with the kids and really tired hard to engage them in different things. i will be giving her a call back on monday to do a 2 hr trial run with the kids.

i have 2 more interviews to do on monday and 1 on tuesday. hopefully i can get this organised and have 1 less stress.
