I'm curious how many people have dinner sets or special platters etc that they use only at Christmas time...

I don't have Christmas but I have other holidays. I may buy a couple Christmas platters just because I feel guilty.

I do plan on getting some green glassware at some point which would fit well with Christmas stuff but really I just love green glass and did long before Christmas was in the picture. ph34r.gif

MIL has an expensive Xmas dinner set, glasses, platters and a load of other stuff. I think it's the biggest waste of money ever. And she doesn't have a dishwasher so I have helped wash/dry it every Xmas, and had it 'checked' before it's re-boxed and packed away. Personally I think everyday stuff is fine, you can always make the table Christmassy with bon-bons etc.

A plate or two.

We also have particular table cloths and table runners. The cloths are green so we use them at other times in the year occasionally, but the runners are specifically Christmas. We also have cream napkins which we only tend to use at Christmas - mostly because there's 24 of them, so I don't want the top 6 to get used and discoloured - I want all 24 to be equally used and we only have that many people at Christmas or similar.

We have HEAPS of glassware we bought when we used to entertain as part of our job, and some of that only gets used at Christmas either (think martini glasses, specific dessert wine glasses etc.) Not Christmas-specific, but only tend to get used then.

I have everything Christmas. On Christmas day, 17 of us will not be using a single plain thing. Including cutlery and servers.

What is a charger?

Those big decorative discs that go under the plate, often "silver" or "gold."

Then the china plate goes on top?
