What are some family friendly breeds of hairless, short haired or low allergy cats please?

I like Devon Rexes and Sphynxes but I think you'd still have to trial the specific cat with the specific allergy sufferer.

Devon or Cornish Rex fit that bill. There is also Sphynx, but personally a cat you have to oil that feels like a warm Chamois is NMS.
What's the allergy OP ? Dander, or cat saliva ? If the former, you can also look at Ragdoll and Birman - they have hair, but less dander. |

Last time I saw a couple of Sphynx I stroked them. Made me gag, the texture of their skin was gross.. They may be nice for some, but not for me. I'd personally go for a Cornish Rex.

Oh no allergies, DH says the only way we could get a cat is if its short haired or hairless etc, he does suffer hayfever but no allergies as far as we know.

Short haired Burmese cats are supposed to be very good for the allergy sufferer. I have had 2 and no problems with my allergies, where a previous cat (medium haired non specific breed) saw my eyes swell up so badly I had to have steroid injections in emergency.

I'm going to say Burmese. They are awesome and everyone I know who has one LOVES them. Also anyone who likes cats who's met my cats threatens to smuggle them out.

If the former, you can also look at Ragdoll and Birman - they have hair, but less dander. We have two Devons and they are delightful. Our mummy Devon ( she was a breeders cat before we got her) is so patient with our baby boy. Our kitten (who is 10) pretends he doesn't exist. They both love cuddles and come into bed with us. The only thing is they must be indoor cats due to their lack of fur and if you like aloof animals then they are not the cat for you, they love being with the family. |
