Hi. Wanted to buy my young son an iPad for Christmas, but was wondering if there was anything cheaper that would serve the same purpose. We would be mainly downloading games.

Thanks so much in advance. Really wanted to avoid that hefty price tag!

I have bought my 3 kids these for xmas. I have had a bit of a play and updated software, added games etc and I am really happy with them.

I spent months researching other tablets as I just can't justify spending the price of an ipad when there are so many cheaper (and better) options out there.

I ended up getting them of ebay for $225 and that included a keyboard case and an assortment of cords and adapters.

There is definitely a big range of tablets to choose from.

Hope that helps.

Lisa

So Lisa,

Does the Zenithink allow you to download games in the same way you would on an Apple iPad? Can you download the SAME games that you can on an iPad? Do they cost you, and are they from the same source?

Can you use prepaid internet with these?

Sorry...just not tech savvy at all, so reading up on the internet just confuses me wacko.gif

.....or perhaps you could direct me to a web site that would explain all this in layman's terms?

Thanks again

I doubt you'd be able to download the exact same games that you can on the ipad as you wouldn't be able to access the Apple AppStore but if they are available in the android app store ( I am not sure how that exactly works) then I guess your answer is yes. It seems from the initial link that PP sent that it is an Android tablet. I would suggest googling Android Tablet App Store and see what you come up with. I think Google will be your friend in helping you decide if you want this tablet.

I can add that my friends who use android tablets say that their isn't the variety of apps that apple offer. I am not sure though just going on what they say.

The android app store is called Google Play. You can have a look using your web browser. Not as much stuff as Apple, but plenty for kids, including all the popular stuff like Angry Birds and Minecraft.

Both my kids have 7 inch android tablets (same size as ipad mini), both cost around the $200 mark. One is from www.kogan.com.au, the other is a Google Nexus 7 and a lot better. Also take a look at the Samsung Galaxy 7, which is at post offices for about $240, and the Kindle Fire has good reviews.

Hi

It uses the Google play store. I already android on a tablet I have and also have an iPhone. SO far I haven't come across anything I can't get. I have found more that more apps are free that you might need to pay for on iTunes. Most apps these days and made for android and apple.

These seem pretty cheap.

I don't know if they are any good - but they are Android so I'd expect they can play all the stuff other Andriod tablets can.

Take a deep breath and count to 10......
I got my 3 a Kindle fire from amazon last Christmas. They have been great, I did have to forward ship them from a US address (I used hopshopgo) and they worked out to about $240 each delivered.
You do not have access to the Amazon site outside the USA but they are fairly simple to root and then download Market Android. All the instructions are on google.
They have wifi access and have downloaded heaps of games apps from Market android. They also watch cartoons on You tube and generally access the web (under supervision of course!!)

I'm not sure about this one, but some of the cheaper tablets are not compatible with the store and have their own cut back store.

I bought one earlier this year and ended up returning it because the advertising was deceptive in that regard.
