Fembo, not tart.
Hi, I have been using some old Milo and Coffee tins and decorating them with flannel fabric and made money boxes out of them.
My father has made the slits in the lid with his milling machine and has made sure the edges are nice and smooth so kids can't cut themselves.

Here is an example of one I made for DS. Do you think these kind of things are ok to donate to the Christmas Tree Appeal? They allow for hand made items.
Do you think anyone would like one?

Umm, yep...i like your idea, but children who's parent's can't afford to buy them a xmas present rarely have spare $'s to put in a money box

Ok, scrap the money boxes. Sock monkeys only it is.

Mind you, DS doesn't get pocket money. 1 because he's too young, 2 because I can't afford.
He just puts the few coins in there that he finds on the street or in the shops.

Ehmmmm I don't think I can. It might be seen as self advertizing or something.

But you can google sock monkeys and you'll be able to find some images original.gif

They're very cute (if I googled the right thing) but do they not cost a fair bit to make? I know those long stripey socks are quite expensive, plus stuffing and whatever else you use, plus they must take a fair bit of time? Surely you can't make one for under $15? You can get lots of cool toys for under $15 these days. Kmart have those penny board skateboards for $15. In fact, they have lots of good toys for under $15.

I know your intentions are good, but if I were a kid getting nothing else for Christmas, a sock monkey wouldn't exactly thrill me...

JMO.

I already have the socks and stuffing here as I make them all the time for friends and family. Stuffing I buy in bulk when good specials are on at Spotlight.
I would not use the kneehigh socks because they are too big for small kids. Kneehigh socks are about $3,- a pair when buying in the US.

Time wise, I can make 1 monkey in 2 days. So I was looking at donating 3 monkeys.

But yeah, it's starting to look like I can't donate anything to the tree this year. Maybe, just maybe I can try and sell a money box or 2 and then buy a small gift for the tree.

Fair enough, if you already have the stuff to make them that's a bit different.
