Hi Ladies,

I am 5 weeks today and have just noticed some pinky red spotting when I wiped. This is my 4th baby and the only after times I have bled (with 2 pregnancies) was implantation bleeding before I found out I was pregnant.

Could it be the baby snuggling in further at 5 weeks or should I prepare myself for the worst? I am feeling very down ATM.

Thanks so much

I had bleeding one night at around 5 weeks with my bub. It was bright red. As I had had 2 miscarriages previously, I went to my GP and got a referral for 2 blood tests about 4 days apart to test if the level of my pregnancy hormones were increasing. If the levels are increasing then everything is going fine.

Hi,
I had spotting at 14 weeks and it turned out to be ok. Sometimes bleeding occurs for a number of reasons. Yours could still be implantation bleeding that's taken a while to trickle down? But I agree with the previous poster - go to your doc and get your HCG levels checked.
Good luck and best thoughts for you and yours family.. xx

The implantation bleeding that you experience during your LP is actually a debated topic. Many will say it's not an implantation bleed but a result of a second surge in oestrogen to prepare the lining for implantation.

Real implantation bleeding can happen between 5-6 weeks as the embryo burrows down deeper and the placenta starts to make it's initial attachments and this could be what you're experiencing. There are many many things that can cause a bit of bleeding though. If it's just a bit, it doesn't mean anything specific. It's important to be aware of possibilities (ectopic for example) and see a doctor of you get any pain but mostly just take it one day at a time for now.

Thanks ladies. I haven't had any spotting for 8 hours and the lower abdominal discomfort I was experiencing has eased a little but I can still feel something not cramping just something. I spoke to my Dr at lunchtime and he has advised to take one day at a time. I really hope it is implantation and bubby is just snuggling in deeper but I can't help but feel nervous.

Thanks again.

Hi Ladies,

Spotting has started again - more red today but still mucousy. I have booked in for an ultrasound next Thursday when I will be 6 weeks - hoping to see something then. I am not feeling very optimistic.

i had spotting in 5 weeks then scanned at 6 wks normal. spotting went away n returned in 8 weeks and scanned normal again. saw bub wave in fact. spotting has just went away again now at 11 wks and going for 12 wk scan next week. My doc said if there is h/b at 6 weeks and strong / fast hb indicates low chance of m/c. dont worry too much

Thanks ladies. No spotting today and only 1 spot yesterday. Discomfort has eased but am feeling very bloated today. I just wish Thursday would hurry up. Trying to think happy thoughts. Thursday can not come quick enough. Thank you for all your replies has made me feel a little better that these things can be very normal. You would think I would have no surprises being my fourth pregnancy!! xx

H OP,
Just to reassure you, I have had spotting between 6-8 weeks. I was so scared and had a scan, bub was fine. The reason for my spotting was due to a vascular cervix, apparently they can get soft and sensitive during early pregnancy and can easily 'bleed'. My spotting would occur after BD or an internal U/S. Good luck, I hope everything will be just fine for you also.
