Something strange is happening here this morning.

I don't have caller ID, but I keep getting phone calls from my my parents number - it's coming up on the screen. The line hangs up when I pick up. I've called them back, and they've not been calling here. I've had them check all the phones in the house, nothing unusual. We've got 2 handsets here, they both seem fine.

I called DH at work, to get him to call me back, and it worked fine, and 'private number' showing, as it typically does.

Even after speaking to him, I've had another call from my parents number.

Has anyone had anything like this happen?

if they can, get your parents to take their phone off the hook for an hour or 2 and see if you still get the calls from their number.

Not sure how it will solve the problem entirely, but if you keep getting calls from their number, then you'll know it's not their phone connection that is causing the issue?

I guess you could also call the phone company and query them about it. They might have a good answer. Might be something they have dealt with before

If you or your parents are with Telstra you can call them a log a fault in the line. Make sure they arent going to charge you or your parents as no one 'should' need to come to your home as the fault is in the connection not in either of your phones as you are both receiving and making calls without problems.

It could also just be them (telstra) doing some work at one of your connecting exchanges, so it will fix itself.

If you can write down the times this happens, that will help.

If you are both with other companies, you can log a fault but if you are with a smaller onseller then the chances of the fault getting fixed sometime soon is low.


oh, if your parents have their homeline connected to their computer / another bit of equipment, then it could be that automatically dialling too.

Its seemed to have stopped for the moment

Oh good that helps. Both of these companies actually have technicians that do physical work in / exchanges.

If it happens again, just get them (your parents) to check the computer / other electronic equipment (ADSL modem) and then they can log a fault with telstra.

My guesstimate would be work happening on the exchange / lines though.
