I am going to a gala/ball thingy on Saturday night and am wearing THIS dress.

I'm a size 10, but 27 weeks pregnant - so there is a sizable bump out the front these days :-)

I think I want to wear my hair up, but I am terrible at doing up-do's. My hair sits about an inch above my bra strap on my back, and I usually wear a side fringe kinda thing because I have a complex about my big forehead.

So... any links or hints on how to do a nice, easy up-do??? Or other suggestions that might look good?

That looks like a lovely dress.

I cannot give you any tips myself but will be watching for any suggestions. If someone comes in here and says....'simply blow dry your hair with mousse, sweep it up onto the crown of your head in a messy bun and pin...voila' - I think I will punch the computer. I would also like to know the secret of the up-do.....

I struggle getting nice up-dos, but have found that using a hair donut helps! You can get them pretty cheap and in different sizes, and I find it easier to wrap my hair and pin it around the donut than just randomly pinning it in a bun.

I was going to suggest something similar! Google or YouTube "sock bun" and you should be able to get a good idea!

I am shocking at doing hair myself but I did get a bun thing from the reject shop....it's even easier to use than the donut....and is only about $3

It's basically a long flexible rectangle with a slit in the middle of it. You put you hair in a ponytail, put the ponytail through the slit, pull the rectangle thing to the end of the ponytail and then wind down and pull the flexible thing around in a circle when you reach the crown of your head. That sounds like a terrible explanation and really odd but trust me if you see the thing I am talking about it is really easy.

You could either do a high bun doing a high pony tail....or a little bit more sophisticated put your hair in a low ponytail at the back of you head more on to one side and then do the bun thing....so you have a low sleek bun on one side...great dress by the way!!!

I have a ball on Saturday too and it is a James Bond 007 theme .... was thinking of a loose side bun type thing ... might have to practice tomorrow night haha

A favorite of mine and so easy. Wash and blow dry loosly (sea salt spray as well) in the morning but making sure you blow dry with a brush at the front and at the sides. Then tease, place in bun at the very bottom of the neck and comb through at the front and sides.

Thanks for the replies! I am thinking the low bun is the way to go.... now to just figure out how to do it!

I should have added, my hair is naturally curly but I straighten it most of the time. Even with that, I am pretty uncoordinated when it comes to blow drying my hair! It's also pretty frizzy so I rely on the best invention on the planet (aka my GHD) to make it look straight :-)

I third, or is is it fourth by now?, the donut bun suggestion. It's super easy and impressive. Simply put your hair in a pony tail (I like to go as high as I can), secure with hair lackey, put donut on, arrange and pin hair over the donut. It can be neat and sleek or more natural and messy.

It really is easy but sear 'hair donut' on you tube if you want to see it in action.
