Waiting for our initial appointment mid Dec (for the mandatory counseling and info sessions), but hoping to start injecting first thing January (keen to get started as going on holidays early March - plus I feel like I've already been waiting a lifetime).

I'm not sure if this goal is realistic or not. I'm guessing there might be a huge influx first thing Jan? Will booking two weeks beforehand cut it at that time of year with MIVF?

Wish our initial appointment was earlier, but they made it then so that we'd have our police checks in time. I bet our checks will come in the next week or two but by then they will have no time to make the appointment earlier...

I don't see that will be a problem at all. If you've got your police/child protection checks done, and you've had your counselling session, you're good to go!

With my clinic you don't "book" in really. I mean, if you're like me and have an irregular cycle, how do you know when to book for?

We weren't at MIFV, but for us, we did all the checks etc, and had our planning meeitng with our FS in December. And all I had to do was call the clinic in Jan when I got my period, tell them it was day 1 and then go in and get all my drugs. It was pretty simple and easy actually :-) I did stim cycles in Jan 2011 and 2012 and never had an issue.

I'm with MIVF, unless you are doing a PGD cycle, there is no need to book. If you get the go ahead from your FS, he/she will give you a piece of paper generally with some orders on it and if everything else is in place like police checks etc mentioned by pp, then you just call on day 1 and arrange payment and to start.

Some specialists do take leave in January so the only delay that could be possible would be if you are going through a specialist through Freemasons and they are not available to write up your cycle details (unless they have already written them up) or if you are going through the Womens and you need another appointment for your cycle details and medications to be written up because sometimes the wait for appointments can be a little longer in January in the public hospital. Do you know if your specialist has already designed the cycle protocol you will be on and has written up the paperwork? One more thing, if you are going to do a down reg cycle with the pill then if you intend to start injecting in January you will need to start down regging in December. I can't remember when the cycle cost is due though because it will save you lots of money if you only pay for your first cycle in January next year.

Depends on when you get AF and if they want to put you on their standard Down Reg protocol where you will spend a month on the pill and not start injecting until after your following AF.

I'm going through East Melbourne for the collection and transfers. Specialist picked OCP Antagonist protocol w/ puregon. When I received my info pack from MIVF, it had it written down and the relevant sections highlighted, but I don't know if more has been done than that.

Even though it's not down reg protocol I know it's still OCP and I will be on the pill for a few weeks beforehand. I'm seeing the specialist in a week and I'm hoping he will give me a prescription for the pill so I can take it when AF arrives, even though my initial IVF appointments won't be for three weeks...does that sound likely?

I'm also hoping I can take the pill slightly longer than a few weeks, so that when I start injecting it will be first thing next year (for medicare purposes). I heard that the first injecting date is MIVF's billing date, but I'm not sure if this is correct?

It is worth asking and I can't imagine there would be a problem with starting the pill a little earlier and if it is an antagonist cycle you may not even need a scan before starting to inject. Taking the pill a little longer will probably be fine too and I have done that before with cycles. If your specialist has already written down your cycle type then that sounds like you are ready to go! I honestly can't remember when I paid for cycles and over the years the finance side of things has changed a few times. I have a feeling that payment needs to be made before picking up meds though? So as long as you are close enough by to go and get your medications in January then it could work to pay then. I live a few hours away so always paid earlier so the meds could be express posted and get here in plenty of time. The pill is purchased separately so you can get that before paying your cycle costs. Fingers crossed that your appt goes well and you get the go ahead for early next year.
