Hi there,(Before I start I will be talking to my GP about this - just wanted to get some opinions)We are takig our 2 and 4 year old kids to Singapore and Hong Kong over the new year. Just 2 weeks staying in nice places.Would you vaccinate them for hep a and b beforehand? I am all for standard vaccination but not sure how necessary it is or travel staying in major cities. I don't want to give them unnecessary vaccinations if it can be avoided.What would you do?Thanks

I personally wouldn't. What does the travel website say? The kids would already have Hep B - from their standard immunisations.
We took a 18mth old and 3 year old to Singapore. Didn't get any extra immunisations. |

If only in the cities and in major hotels, I'd possibly question the value.
Thanks for reminding me to organise our follow-up hep A though - we went to Malaysia earlier in the year and went with the full series of shots for all of us. A follow-up on the hep A is meant to give lifetiem coverage, so seems worth it. Apart from a couple of days localised swelling, no adverse effects... |

Your kids are already covered for B. We will be travelling next year and we definitely will be getting our 3 year old twins and ourselves covered for A - especially as it it lifelong.

Thanks everyone - was having a blond moment with the hep b - of course they are covered!! Only hep a to worry about then - and I think they are only low risk areas for that.Where are you takig your twins domestically challenged?

We went to Singapore last year with our kids and never got Hep A vaccinations, everything I read said you don't need it, same for HK as we looked at going there. My kids recently got the hep A vaccinations as we are off to Bali. They were $42 at our GP and we go $6 back from our PHI.

If I was only travelling to those cities, I doubt I would be concerned about vaccinations. We went to Thailand without vaccinations, but did get them before going to Vietnam (Hep A, typhoid for all and tetanus boosters for me and DH)..
We will be getting Hep A boosters before we go to HK, but only because they are due. |
