Hi, as topic stated... Those funny noises made by newborns during their sleep, when will they stop? We moved DD2 to her own room when she was about 2 months old, so I never knew when they stop grunting in their sleep. With DD3 just got here 3 weeks ago, we have her in our room with us and the 2 of them will have to share room later on. I can barely sleep with DD3's funny noises in the room. unfortunately I can't move her to her big sister's room yet and It's driving me mad

Can't help re when they stop, but I purchased some ear plugs from bunnings!!!!!! They block out those little noises and I can still hear him when he cries (can also hear when the older boys wake up too and they are upstairs). I am a very light sleeper and this was a sanity saver.

I've got no idea, sorry. After one night of sharing a room with DS he was quickly moved into his own. There was no way I could sleep with all that racket going on lol.
Earplugs are a great idea, you won't hear all those annoying grunts but will certainly hear her when she wakes and cries. ETA: I think it was at least three to four months, I remember DS neighing like a horse in his sleep at that age! This post has been edited by ~chiquita~: 14/11/2012, 08:19 PM |

I can't remember when it stops. I think I just got used to it.
DD3 was in our room for 17 months because we didn't have room and couldn't put her with ether of the other two. Waking up several times a night. |

DS stopped somewhere around 3 months I think. I got used to it pretty quick and in fact barely slept when he stopped as I kept waking in panic because I couldn't hear him

Those noises are so cute! my bub doesn't make them anymore and I can't remember when they stopped, 3 to 4 months perhaps.

You should be fine to put the baby in with your older child if that is what you want (I think SIDS guidelines recommend they spend the first 6 months in the parents rooms though). Parents (especially mums) seem far more in tune with the noises newborns make.
Does your DH notice the noises? While they seem loud to you, it probably wouldn't be noticed by an older child, especially if they went to sleep before the baby goes to bed after its last feed for the night. |

Thanks for the reply. I intended to keep her in our room until she has outgrown her bassinet. I have been using earplugs for the time beings. I have become such a light sleeper ever since I became a mum. DH seems to cope well with the noises as long as he's asleep; however, even a little grunt she made would wake me up and my heartbeat will be racing so fast and it will take me awhile to go back to sleep but to be woken up again few minutes later.
The earplugs seems to help but it hurt my ears so much to wear it the whole night. I suppose I just wanted to know how long will it last :-p |

Perhaps you need a different type of ear plug if they are hurting, I used the foam ones that you twist/squish then insert and they reinflate, very comfortable and effective unless you push them in too far!
