Hi all, I have just opened all the mail this morning and found a bill from a genetics place for the cost of the screening which we had done at the sametime as the NT scan. Before I pay this bill I just want to make sure that this is right and others have received bills as my GP never mentioned a bill for the blood work. I know the scan cost (as I paid for this on the day.) just wonering if it is normal for the blood work to cost as well.

I was bulk billed for mine. I think some places do charge though.

Yep - same as Sloane Peterson. My GP didn't tell me about it either so I was kind of surprised to get it.

I paid around $100 as well. I was able to claim some of it back from Medicare though.

Mine were bulk billed.
If you weren't told about it, I would contest it because I don't think you can really get charged in retrospect for something you weren't advised would cost. |

Totally normal to me. From what I understood the NT blood tests were sent to a special genetics lab, not just a standard path lab. As usual you sign the path form for the BT, and I had to sign a separate form for the NT test stating I understood there would be a bill for it....
FWIW, my bill was $100.30 and as I was over the Medicare safety net I got $88.80 back :-) As a side point - I randomly receive bills for pathology, and it's always after the fact - they aren't really set up to charge you on the spot! I always notice when my Dr writes PLEASE BULK BILL on the form, and the phlebotomist then gets me to sign the form and says it's to make sure I don't get a bill for it. |

Mine was bulk billed.
I have been told that if you get two tests done on the same day by different referring doctors you can be charged. I don't know if this applies to you. I tried to get two blood tests done on one day and was told by the lady at QML that because 2 referring doctors were on the letters I would be charged for 1 of them. |
