Have been in love with this name for years, and am trying to convince my Indian-born husband to use this if our next baby is a girl. (Not preg yet)

It is Hindi in origin, correctly pronounced AHN-jah-ly. I know it will be mispronounced but I can accept that.

Also what middle name? Our last name is one syllable starting with 'R'

I know an Anjali and really like it. They just pronounce it like Angelie. Quite cool actually.

It's pronounced pretty much as it looks. Looks and sounds feminine, too, so as long as you will be patient with the mispronouncers or the not-even-trying-ers, I would go for it.

A- names and -lee/ley names are pretty varied and well-loved right now, I don't even think it sticks out much. I'd prefer it to Atley and Ashli and so on.

I will say some people might turn it into an Angela-like form, an-JELL-ee or Angel-ee, but that's not like a rude word or something.

While I love the real pronunciation, I also think "Angelie" is pretty too. Now just have to convince DH!

To be honest I'm not a fan. But it's just a bit frilly for my tastes.

That said, I have a friend that named her son Ajani which I quite like. It's African and means 'He fights for what is his'. Apparently it's a unisex name though according to:
http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/m...g_of_Ajani.html

I like Ajani even for a girl more than Anjali.

I love it. I think with an Australian pronunciation, it will end up more like ann-ja-lie (as I've heard it pronounced like that in Australia) but that still sounds nice to me. A lot of names will have slight differences in pronunciation between countries, but I don't think it's a huge issue.
