Watching the amazing solar eclipse on TV, and caught a comment on channel 7 from Grant Denyer as the moon was moving away from total coverage of the sun:
"It's like the dawning of a new era"

Lol, really? It just seemed like the sunlight coming back after an eclipse...

I don't know if anyone remembers his comments following the cyclones a few years back - things about poor baby bananas that never got to grow etc...

Heard any gems?

Edit: on a side note, it was an amazing sight, although on TV - too many clouds here in Canberra to see anything through a pinhole camera sad.gif

Very weird feeling about the light up here in Brisbane. Definitely worth experiencing for me. Would have loved to be in Nth Qld.

Not sure about Grant's comment. Always over the top superlative for TV.

Still a big moment. original.gif

Give me my coffee and no one gets hurt!!!
Overcast in Sydney, so no views here.

While not an odd comment about the eclipse, I am watching Channel 7. The traffic helicopter woman just reported on a car that had gone out of control and was in someone's yard. Showed some video as well of the heavily damaged car.

Then segwayed straight into a Honda car sales ad. I thought it was a bit of an odd ad to do while still showing footage of the crash

We can't find any cardboard to make a pinhole camera sad.gif .

Not really listening to TV, but the ambient "twilight" here in Bris is getting lovely. Or maybe I think that as I know the lack of bright is from a solar eclipse. wink.gif

It was awesome in Cairns. Can't believe we got lucky with the weather after several rainy days. But dawning of a new era is a bit of hyperbole.

It did look awesome - I got goosebumps. I wish everyone had just shut up during it though!

I watched the coverage you are talking about. I thought he was carrying on like a porkchop and just wanted him to shut up so I could enjoy it. In hindsight I should have just put it on mute.

I was annoyed that he went around interviewing people during the eclipse too. FGS, it lasted 2 minutes... leave them alone so they can enjoy the very rare event and interview them afterwards.

The 'dawning of a new era' comment was waaaaay OTT for me. I think there was a reference to 'God' thrown in there for good measure as well. wacko.gif

What else would you expect from Denyer?

I thought the whole thing was covered in ridiculous fashion anyway. It's an eclipse. They happen. I don't think we need half a dozen people covering it on location and interviewing people who saw it.

We saw it here in Canberra for a short time before we lost it in the clouds again.

One pearler I heard from one of the Sunrise team:

It's like... like a big ball of fire with a black bit...

Another thing that annoyed me was him saying that everyone had gone quiet and the silence was chilling (or something along those lines) but yet there's him still jumping up and down all hyper and carrying on. blink.gif

He's like a small child on red cordial. I've even gone to the trouble of putting in complaints about him from time to time (when he really crosses the line in terms of taste) but they never even bother to answer me.
