DD 7 is spending an inordinate amount of time making PowerPoint presentations about her 'passions', her current one is about palm oil and it's impact upon orangutangs.

Obviously school is teaching them about habitat destruction, sustainability etc, which is fantastic!

I remember when I was young, my "cause" was the ivory trade; I wrote several letters to Asian governments airing my displeasure, lol.

Do your children have a passion or cause, and what do you do, if anything, to assist or encourage them in their cause?

Me and my friends had a club "The Environment Group" (wernt we creative) we spent lots of time doing things during lunch - it was when Captain Planet was very popular

No, mine are too young but DS is starting to ask a lot of questions about children who "dont have enough food" or children who "are cold at night". It is a new concept for him to imagine that anyone else may have different kind of life. He is four after all and I'm not sure whether it is the right time. He thinks a LOT about things and asks questions days afterwards.

I used to be a fanatic supporter of Amnesty INternational when I was young. I did all the letter writing and used to volunteer at ulltimo packing thier Christmas hampers for the catalogue sales When mine are older I certainly hope they do have a cause

My daughter's current cause seems to be water saving.

She's always telling me we should do x to save water. I can't say I'm particularly encouraging, we're not really water wasters anyway. But I listen and talk to her about it and discuss her ideas

ETA: I used to love Captain Planet Tobia's Mum. Except for heart, pfft what a useless power thingy...
