Hi all,
DS (3 months) is at the point where he only poos about once a week (the longest he has gone is 8 days). I know its totally normal, but no-one else I know (IRL) has had a baby who goes so long between, so it got me curious, whats the longest your baby has gone? After about 5 days he starts to get quite unsettled and grumpy so I do wonder if it starts giving him grief. I'm also curious to know, if your baby has started solids, how did this effect it? |

DD regularly went 10 days. She did seem a little uncomfortable after about a week. When she went onto solids at 6 months (baby-led weaning) she started going more regularly, but only after she started actually eating anything at about 8 months. By 12 months she aye a lot of solids and goes every day or so depending on her fruit intake!

2 and a half weeks. We rang the nurses info line and they said that was the outer range of normal. But he was perfectly fine and kept that up the whole time he was exclusively breastfed. Now on solids and does 2 or 3 a day. Know which I prefer

DS was unsettled and hadn't done a poo for over a week so I mentioned it to the doctor when there about something else - despite knowing it was normal.
He said the longest he had heard of was 29 days and the baby was fine! Big poo at the end though. He did say that was an unusualy long time. |

Mine was going three times a day at one point. Record for him was 8 times in one day. It all comes down to how much they eat and how much they absorb as energy. You only have to worry about poo when they start solids.

Yep we had a 4 week lead time once... and regularly 2-3 weeks for both my boys.
My second bub settled into a once a week kind of rhythm, and it stayed that way until over 6 months. We had to start solids very gradually (baby led, but had to hold him back) as the firmer poos caused him discomfort until he got into a more regular routine (eventually daily), closer to 12months. |
