MORE than 100 Australian retailers have signed up to provide discounts of up to 90 per cent next week in an online sale designed to become an annual event.

Click Frenzy, due to start at 7pm next Tuesday, will feature sales from top bricks-and-mortar retailers including Myer, Target, Sportscraft, d*ck Smith and Ted's Cameras, as well as online-only sellers like Kogan, SurfStitch and The Iconic.

Jeanswest, Style Tread, Booktopia, Dan Murphy's, Just Jeans, Portmans, Dotti, Deals Direct, Bing Lee are also joining the sale.

Organiser Grant Arnott, from industry group Power Retail, said the event was designed to mimic America's Cyber Monday sales in which more than 10 million online shoppers spent $1.25 billion in 24 hours last year.

Mr Arnott said the event was deliberately scheduled six days before the US online sale to provide a boost to local retailers, and it had been scheduled to begin at night to highlight the convenience of shopping from the couch on whatever device was closest.

''Shopping from the comfort of the couch is the game-changer of this century,'' he said.

''(Online shopping) is not having as big an impact as it's made out to, be we believe it's a big part of the future of retail.''

Despite tough financial circumstances, Australians are spending more online than ever before.

Consumers spent more than $12 billion in online purchases by the end of September, according to the National Australia Bank, up from $11.7 billion spent throughout last year.

Mr Arnott said he chose November 20 because it was a typically slow period for Australian retailers.

“It’s about injecting a sales sprint in what’s traditionally a quiet period for retail before the Christmas season really starts,” said Mr Arnott.

Shoppers will access the bargains, offers and deals at the sale website clickfrenzy.com.au.

I've signed up too, just to see. There's nothing in particular that I want/need, let's see if I'm still of that opinion tomorrow...

I watched the clock count down to 0. Then the screen refreshed. And then it crashed. LOL!

I didn't bother signing up...most of the participating stores have codes/info on their home pages. Is it worthwhile signing up at all then?
