I’ve been completely sugar free for the last 6 weeks (semi-sugar free the 4 wks before that) and I’ve been feeling pretty great. I noticed the difference in my cravings, appetite, and energy levels almost straight away.

Now I’m pg (very early) and I’m thinking I would like to continue being sugar free, but I haven’t been able to find anything on the web about sugar free pregnancies.

My way of thinking is that it would be safe and don't see it to be an issue? Since sugar isn’t something our bodies actually need unlike carb/protein/fats...

Has anyone else had a sugar free pregnancy? Did you find it better or worse than a pregnancy with sugar? Does anyone have any reason why it wouldn’t be okay to continue living sugar (fructose) free?

I'm 32 weeks and eat fructose free since before pregnant - in fact i lost 10kg which contributed to me gettiing pregnant n first place.

I saw a dietician, and have had to add fruit in again though to help with digestion/fibre intake. So have 2 servings of fruit a day now where i didnt before.

apart from that, and a few cravings for ice cream/slushies i have basically been eating the same. I have a paddlepop for a lower sugar hit, if having a craving for ice cream, and make my own sugar free slushies at home with ice shave machine.

I have had quite a few comments that all my weight gain seems to be baby/belly rather than me, so something seems to be working. I guess just keep an eye on your fibre intake.

We had been ttc for 11 months and it finally happened once I was sugar free (and had lost 4kg from it). Probably reading too much into it but I do wonder if it could have helped…

I'm not a sweet tooth but I was essentially sugar free through my pregnancy (I don't eat much fruit but eat lots of vegies). With my first, I was diagnosed with mild GD so just cut all sugars out to be safe. I didn't notice it at all. I gained only 6 kilos in the pregnancy (and was 45kg to start with) and kept going to the gym till 36 weeks and was back there again at 5 weeks. I was healthy and fit and didn't suffer from not having sugar.
