Can you hurt an Australian magpie by accidentally feeding it small pieces of tasty cheese?
I was TRYING to feed a starving feral cat. The magpie loves me now, I think we might have to get married. Every time I step foot out of the unit, there he is. The feral cat still hates me. It was hissing and hiding (but too tired to really run) meanwhile the magpie practically was telling me his life story and coming up to my feet. |

A magpie stole a chicken nugget out of DD's hand when we were at the Zoo recently. She was very unimpressed.

This feral lives outside our building and nowhere else. It's always on the lawn or in the driveway, usually asleep and looking ill. Manky coat, leaky eyes, looks like crap.
It was a kitten when we moved in and there were about 6 other cats including its mother that lived in the complex. Two got hit by cars and several more were poisoned by the strata and this one is still alive but it hates people and there was an old man next door who used to put out water for it but he's either died or gone into a nursing home. It hardly moves at all now, beyond avoiding the Crazy Lady (me) and some knowledge of cars. I was shocked the magpie wasn't scared of it, but it so, so was not even sort of |

the juvenile magpies hanging around my garden that I thought were soooo cute are now less so. They keep on pulling out my marigold plants and going on the trampoline and pretending they can't get out (they can). There is now magpie poo all over the tramp. I don't know what the fascination with the marigolds is about. Maybe because their stalks are brown, they kind of look like worms.
I don't think the cheese will hurt your friend. You didn't force feed it - it made the decision to eat the cheese itself! And, you have probably ensured that this bird will never, ever swoop you. This post has been edited by Frau Farbissina: 12/11/2012, 08:38 PM |
