A friend of mine is expecting her first baby 10 days before Christmas. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be a good gift for her. Unfortunately gifts such as time and frozen meals aren't possible. What did you receive as a new mum that your really loved? Or would have loved to have been given?

A gift voucher for a massage.
I'm due 3 days before Christmas and I know this will be under the tree from my mum and TBH I can't wait to use it. I've given massage vouchers to friends that have just had babies and every one of them used the voucher and loved it. |

Check out the Contigo insulated bottles. Allows mum to have a hot tea/coffee and not have to worry about it being spilt

I second the massage voucher. I also got a lovely fluffy dressing gown when DS was brand new that I LOVED when I was breastfeeding, but he was a winter baby.

My favorite "new mum" gift at the moment is a nice little bracelet. One that will glam up any outfit, but really for her to swap between wrists to remind her which breast she last fed on!
Not too chunky/heavy, as it will be close to the babys head when she is feeding. I found that elasticised ones with small beads are good. |

I also second anything pampering - a voucher for a massage or pedicure, if she likes that kind of thing, or a lovely hand cream. A DVD or two would also be good if she is spending long stretches on the couch while breastfeeding. |

My friend asked me what skincare stuff I used, what body cream I used etc. She did it in a way I didn't even realise like 'oh your skin looks great, what do you use? Oh, you smell nice, what's that?'
I had a hamper of all my favourite beauty bits and bobs for Christmas. Best present ever. |

I was going to say a massage voucher too, it is the best gift I received after DD was born and now my Dad buys me one very year. Just check the expiry if you do so she can go when she is ready to and not have to rush going because it is going to expire.

Something like this Spa gift set (http://shop.bigpond.com/Product.asp?Action...l&ID=194812) would be awesome, you could make your own up even, through in a magzine or bottle of wine.
