DP is French, my family is from southern Africa. We wanted names that would reflect this. Also my deceased father was Charles - so Charlize is staying regardless of what people say.

Is Amelie getting too common though? We want something that is normalish, but don't want her to one of 4 in her class? Especially considering it's very similar to Emily and Amelia.

I know one other child called Amelie (different state, parents acquaintances rather than close friends)

Thoughts???

It's not overly common, probably in some circles more likely but I've never met one. I really like it!

Amelie is at the low end of the Top 100 in NSW. It also sounds like two Top 10 popular names. If you don't care about popularity its fine. If you do, only you can decide how much.

I like the idea of honouring family and I honestly think Charles is one of the greatest male names for female variants: Charlize, Caroline, Charlene, Charlotte...? (these are all derived from Charles, not just C names) I tend to really love feminizations though.

If a cat doesn't like you, then what's wrong with you?
I only know of one Amelie. She is 3. Her parents pronounce it Ar-ma-lee. I don't love the name.

I know two Amelies born in the last two years - and would say it's getting popular in my circle. Add to that the Emilys and Amelias and Millies and it's too.common for me.

It's a lovely name and it also sounds almost exotic but still feminine even though the middle name is Charlize. Amelie Charlize sounds great. :-)

Thanks everyone - it's pretty nerve wracking posting anything on here - especially anything with an unusual or speshul spelling!
