Could you please share your experiences? What do you think I need to take into consideration and prepare for?
TIA |

I haven't fostered animals but I've talked to people who have (rats). I gather that the most important thing is to make sure that you don't take on more than you can handle, otherwise you have these animals that you can't care for if your life gets too complicated or busy or whatever, and they end up looking for yet another new home. I also gather that you'd have to have the strength of mind to deal with animals who have had bad experiences and kept in rotten conditions. I don't think that would be easy (for me). I'd suggest getting into a guinea pig forum (or whatever animals you are interested in) and asking whether there is an existing foster care system in your local area, then getting in touch with them to see how you can help. Good luck! |

I foster guinea pigs as our local shelter doesn't have the facilities for them. Basically I look after them at my own expense, play with them and show them off to people who are looking to adopt (and grill them over it, lol).
I have 30 of my own, plus twenty fosters. Boars are the biggest issue, as they are rarely desexed and are randy, fighting little horrors at times. They're also bigger, smellier and less cuddly than sows. I run at a loss, do it out of love and spend a lot of time raking up poo. They're great little critters though |

I've fostered dogs in the past. The last dog hubby and I fostered we ended up adopting. His name is Sonny and he has such a beautiful nature - It still astounds me that anyone could mistreat him.
I recently published a post about Sonny and pet adoption on my blog It's the most rewarding experience - animals just want to be loved. |
