Ok so I'm hoping to get some personal experience from others.
At my first dating scan a week ago I should have been 8+3 from LMP but am pretty sure I Od late...possibly 5-7 days late (I normally use OPKs but due to a few reasons didn't that month so cannot be certain) so even at the latest should have been 7+3. Bubs was only measuring 5+2 and there was no HB. The person doing the scan said everything looked fine/normal and it was just to early to see a HB...that I should come back in 2-3 weeks for a rescan. Obviously having a difference of 2-3 weeks I freaked out about it and spent the next few days in tears convinced I'd had a mmc. Went to the doc to get some bloods done for HCG levels and although rising very slowly they are going up. On Thursday they were 6200 and Saturday only 6800. These numbers are consistent with what the scan dates say rather than my dates. I've read a few things that say HCG levels don't necessarily double with everyone but it's still hard to imagine everything might work out. I've just booked another scan for next Monday so have another torturous week to get through before we get an answer. Anyone got any stories about slow rising HVG levels or dates being out significantly. Good our bad I'm happy for you to share as I'd like to get an idea if I should get my hopes up or not. TIA. |

Hi lissy118...sorry to hear you're going through the same thing. It's such a horribly difficult time. Good luck...I have my fingers and toes crossed we both get a good outcome. xx
Hopefully this bumps the question up again and we get a few more replies. |

I had a scan at 6 weeks but measured a week behind and had very slow rising HCG levels.. My OB said that it doesn't always mean that the pregnancy is not viable but unfortunately for me, it did

Sounds like a blighted ovum at this stage. Hope it isn't and all goes well. How stressful xxx

I had a similar experience in July, I was pretty certain of dates but when I went for 8 week scan the baby measured 5+5 with no HB. Unfortunately for me a scan a week later showed no change so I was booked the next day for D&C. However when I arrived at the hospital, my blood results from the day before had come in, and my HCG had increased to 55 000. Because of that, the doctor insisted on another scan as my levels were high and rising, I'd had no bleeding and my symptoms were still in full force (how cruel). The third scan again showed no change (and no twin hiding - which at that point was my only hope of staying pregnant) so the D&C went ahead.
Thinking of you, it's a gut wrenching thing to go through either way. I will be praying for a different, positive outcome for you. xx This post has been edited by hitchicken: 13/11/2012, 10:28 PM |

If the technician said it all looked 'normal', I would suggest it is not a blighted ovum (as this typically looks like an empty sac with 'cobweb' type strands through it, on ultrasound). Unfortunately, it sounds like a non-viable pregnancy, as the HcG rise is substantially low (at roughly 7 weeks, it should be doubling every 4 days or so, and if you are further along than 7 weeks then a heartbeat should be visible, assuming the ultrasound was done internally rather than trans-abdominally).
This is a horrid situation to be in, and I know the waiting is a killer. I have had this happen many times (have had 7 miscarriages, with a variety of presentations), so am unfortunately speaking from lots of personal experience. I truly hope I am wrong OP. The next scan should hopefully give you your answer. |

Hi ChilliDog
I responded in your other thread. I was meant to be 7 weeks and there was an empty sac..told to do hcg levels and another scan in 2 weeks as they suspected it was too early.. My hcg continued to rise from 28000 to 50000 in a week so doc was confident the next scan would show something. Unfortunately on fri I had another scan and there is no baby..no one can explain why my numbers were still so good, and the doctor was genuinely shocked. I have had my file reviewed by a gyno/ob who confirmed a missed miscarriage (well he called it a missed abortion) and is calling me tomorrow to book in for a D&C. Sorry it's not a happy ending story, but best of luck to you! My fingers are crossed your dates are off This post has been edited by kiwimum2b: 13/11/2012, 10:59 PM |

This is what happened to me this preg..I was positive i was8wks for my dating scan, but scan said 5w5d and was told just too early to tell. I had had 2 mc before this 1 so I put it down to another mc. Doc sent me back 1 week later as my last mc caused a partical moler and they needed to now if the same thing was happening, so I had the scan. Nothing seen with ultra scan and was told they wanted to do internal ultrascan to make a positive result. Emptied my bladder Had internal & still nothing 3rd person that came to check my findings told me to go back and empty bladder again for another internal. At this stage I was over it and was sure nothing was there. 3rd time straight away there was a heartbeat and I cried, just could not believe what I was seeing. I'm now 15wks along and all is well. Don't give up cause you never no whats install. Be firm at scan and tell them you want a definate reading, and take an internal if they sugest it to you.
Good luck |
