Yes, I don't know quite what to do. I'm eager to have another bubs the thing is I was 2kg heavier when I had my second and now another 4 kg heavier again! Should I lose the weight before we try or just dive into the abyss with the hope of losing it once bubs is older?? I should add whilst I'm not 40+ I'm still getting on a bit so timing plays apart. What if I put on a couple more suddenly it's like 10kg???? Anyone in a similar boat?

I can only share my experience.
When I was preg with my first, I was roughly at goal weight, ie a healthy weight for my height. I was 31 YO & had no health issues during the preg.
With my second, I was at least 30kg heavier. I developed PE, ended up in hospital at 34 weeks on BP meds. As a result, my second was born IUGR; he was the size of a 34 weeker born at 38 weeks. I was 35 YO when I gave birth.
In the ensuing months, I continued to gain weight & have BP issues. It took a while for me to make the crucial decision to have WLS, resulting in 43kg lost. I have 8kg more to lose & feel sooo much better about myself. My health now is fantastic, a long way from the ticking time bomb I used to be.
Long story short, I would put TTC on hold if you are not a healthy weight. With all the research I did about PE, barring different fathers etc, the main cause is weight related followed closely by age.
I hope this helps.

I couldn't read this and not reply, after deleting a reply earlier. I was overweight when I had my first baby. Then, I steadily gained until I reached my top weight earlier this year. I never gained weight during pg, always after, while breastfeeding. I don't think the weight you've gained is that much. I'm not trying to diminish weight gain over time, but seriously, 6kg is not that much, especially if you're paying attention to it. I've gained 30kg since the birth of my first child. A little bit at a time, it just piled on. That being said, I have never been sick a day in my life due to my weight. I've never had high blood pressure, especially not during pg. I've never had heart trouble or diabetes. While obesity does increase the risk of complications like PE, it's also not a fact that you will have problems if you're larger. It does not sound to me that you're even close to being obese though. To answer your question, no. I would not let my weight keep me from ttc. I would watch my nutrition while ttc, try to lose the weight before, but not freak out if it didn't happen. I'd also stess good nutrition during pg.
And before someone pops a veign because I'm not worried enough about my weight, I've worked hard to lose weight and have lost 13kg since August. I'm hoping to lose more before we ttc again, but definitely won't freak out if I'm not at goal weight.

Depends on how happy you are dealing with that weight if it does happen that you gain more. I know that I kept gaining weight with all mine and now even with the youngest at 4 I still havent lost it. I hate it and its a struggle every day for my self image. I wish I had waitied a bit longer and pushed myself to lose the weight back then, between #2 and #3 (as thats when I gained the most - 25kg while pregnant due to diabetes, left with about 15 kg after baby was born......first two babies were only ike 2kg and 4kg). So you can learn to love your new shape and just go ahead and try to watch what you eat during the pregnancy or you can do what I did and refuse to have any more till you lose the weight (except in my case that caused me to stop haivng my 6th and final baby, as I never did lose the weight ) In hindsight I wish I had just lost it between babies, or ignored it and had the final desired baby, but am forever sad that I didnt go on to have #6. So dont leave the decision too long like I did.

Thanks people. Whilst I'm not obese I have suffered from GD and blood pressure in previous pregnancies. I'm torn, given that these health problems are likely to get worse as you get older, should I take the 6 moths to a year to lose the weight or is it better being a little overweight but falling pregnant a bit earlier?? (ie. now instead of later) I really don't know. It's doing my head in!
Anyway, thanks for your insight

I know the feelings you guys are talking about so well. I've put on kilos and I'm carrying weight I'm not happy about. I've been trying all kinds of things to shift the pounds as things were really started to get me down, the usual fad diets, the odd bit of exercise but it hasnt really been paying off. I've got a little one on the way so I need to eat more anyway! And getting up the stairs is about all the exercise I can manage atm. My partner said he'd seen something about sleep affecting weight gain/loss so he was going to get us some fancy memory loss mattress (as I toss and turn alot) but it was super expensive so he got a memory foam mattress topper and I'm sleeping a little better but the weight isnt exactly dropping off. Has anyone else read about this kind of stuff or am I grasping at straws? Lib
