Loving life as a Mama!
So do tell, how has your DD / DS gone in their first year of school?

My DS went from loving it, to not liking it, to loving it all over again. He is excelling in reading, liking maths and slowly making friends.

Last week they had their class item which they presented to the remainder of the school and he was the narrator. He was excited and not shy at all and stood there dancing along to the performers.

He is looking forward to Year 1, but has requested a particular teacher. Not sure what his reaction will be if he doesn't have her sad.gif

Over to you...

DS1 settled in really well, he took it all in his stride, we are so proud of what he has achieved this year happy.gif

Academically, he is cruising along middle of the pack. Socially, he prefers to hang with the girls (but his sister did the same with boys in her FYOS)
K-6 are doing the Christmas story (Cath school) to the music of ABBA, so 'Can you hear the sheep Fernando?' is being practised constantly. lol

I think he is a tiny bit worried about starting Yr1, he loves his teacher. I'm not sure who the Yr1 teachers will be next year, but he def won't have his sister's teacher as they don't have sibs in consequtive years.

I can't believe there is less than a month of his FYOS left! mellow.gif

Well, we have probably had the perfect start to school this year original.gif

Sarah has been doing incredibly well at school - academically, she is top of the class, her reading just astounds me. Her only complaint is that work is sometimes too easy. I'm always getting comments from her teacher, or awards coming home.
Socially, everything is lovely. We've had a few bumps, and she is still learning a few social skills - for example, sometimes she just wants to be alone, and has trouble coping with her friends not letting her be. But she is friends with her whole class, and has friends in the other kinder classes as well. As we walk out of school in the afternoon, it is a constant stream of "Bye Sarah!" "See you tomorrow Sarah!" I love her class - such a great little group of kids (17 kids in the class). I've been doing reading groups, and at the end of each week, I get mobbed by these kids, all wanting a hug. I'm actually really sad about moving onto yr 1 next year, because I know the kids will shuffled around in classes, and we'll lose our little group.

Sarah is just loving school. And can't wait to be in yr 1. She even knows what teacher she wants, and is hoping to be in the 1/2 class in case the year 1 work is too easy! LOL
Me ... I'm in a little bit of denial that I'll never have another kinder child .. my babies are growing up!

Lovely stories ladies. It's nice that your LO's have had such a great start to school.

DS is going great too. Writing and drawing skills are slowly improving. Could be better. Reading is going great.

The most noticeable change has been his confidence. This time last year he was quite a negative little person who still cried when I left him at kinder. This week at assembly he got an award for having a positive attitude for the whole school year!

His class did a McDonald's farm scene in the school production. DS was Old McDonald and had about 6 lines to remember. It was awesome to watch him and his classmates perform two songs with movements and lines in between.

His teacher next year seems lovely. We are looking forward to a break from getting up and dressed early, making lunches and making sure the kids are in bed at a reasonable time.

The class are performing next week "on the first day of school Miss x taught me ...." To the tune of 12 days of Christmas. I can't wait!

DD1 has also had a brilliant FYOS. She had an awesome teacher and aide and has thrived in their care. Skipping to school every day was a normal scene for us and I have no doubt that will continue next year. Starting piano mid-year was a highlight, DD1 has loved her lessons and we had a pretty special teacher.

It was her last day today, so I've had a nostalgic afternoon looking at her portfolio, DVD and year book.

My DS had a great FYOS in 2012. He has finished off very confident, more independent and able to read very fluently. He's proudly telling everyone that he's a big boy now that he's in Year 1 original.gif

Bumped off the princess pedestal
DS#3 has had a fantastic start to his schooling. Some trying times when he got tired but they pretty much all get those. He hasn't got a certain group of friends he hangs out with, preferring to move around depending on what activity he wants to join in on. This is good in a way as he isn't sad about being split with other classmates.

Academically, he's thrived. He's finishing the year on level 24 readers and his teacher had already started him on some year one maths. One very proud mummy am I! wink.gif Much to DS#2's disgust, DS#3 has been selected to join the year 1/2 targeted enrichment class...which DS#2 is also in as a year 2 student. grin.gif It's the same teacher as DS#2 had for the class this year and I was very very happy with her so I'm very much looking forward to seeing what next year holds.

We have had a better than expected year. DD is extremely shy and lacked a bit of confidence leading up to School, we were blessed with a wonderful Teacher, which I think helps a lot, she noticed that DD had a lot of potential to do very well but wasn't working to that potential so has been gently pushing her all year. We have noticed a dramatic change in her since then, she has heaps of friends, speaks confidently in front of the entire Class and her work improved no end. Tomorrow is their last day for the year and they end the year with a Celebration Concert, the School contacted me last week to ask me to bring a clean, ironed uniform to the night as DD is being awarded the Academic Achievement prize for Kindergarten 2012, I'm just so proud of her she has worked so hard and deserves this so much biggrin.gif she doesn't know she is getting it until the night so she will be so excited, I can't wait!

Presentation day yesterday, Sarah finished off her FYOS in a fantastic way ... winning the Academic Achievment award for her class, and a fantastic report card, with nearly everything in the highest category.
So very proud of her!
