Hi All, Im new to this forum & this is my post question, so here goes:

We are having our first child in march 2013. I've been recommended by a cousin to look at the Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle (or Urban Elite) and the Phil & Teds Explorer for the pram. Im also interested in a similar type model from the Steelcraft pram range. Does anyone rate these prams? We'll be doing a bit of outdoor walking etc with it in a built-up area and around the creek near our house etc.

What Im looking in the pram is that I can use a car seat infant carrier with it (at this stage Im thinking of the Safe n Sound Unity Infant Carrier) i.e. can this lock into any of the above prams - does anyone else do this? This would mean we wouldn't get the bassinet to suit the pram but rather use the carseat unity carrier in the pram for the first however many months. I'm keen on the unity infant carrier because it has the sun cover and we can pull it out of the car seat attachment and walk around with it if the baby is asleep inside, although I'm open to other suggestions here especially for light baby carriers.

Are the safe n sound car baby carriers made to fit most prams?

Any thoughts or feedback? What has worked for you?

Check out the Valco range, I had an older style Rebel Q & used & adapter for the S&S Unity Capsule.

Whilst our son was small we only used the capsule for 4 months as he is long & skinny. The capsule was fantastic & highly recommended, I've lent mine to a friend with a newborn & she loves it too.

I looked at the Stride but it was too heavy & wide for me, however I believe the new range by Steelcraft is a lot better.

I discounted the other prams you mentioned purely on cost & I don't like 3 wheel versions.

We bought a strider plus with a free toddler seat when we had our first and it means we wont need to buy another when our second comes along. Since then, they have released a strider plus compact. If I was buying again I would buy this one. We are happy with the strider plus but it would be great if it was a little smaller and lighter. Its also cheaper (i think) than the Phil & Teds.

I'm a new-mum-to-be so don't have any experience with prams or carriers, but thought it might be worth mentioning that with the research Hubby & I have done so far we are leaning heavily towards the Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle (looks & feels great), and possibly the Safe n Sound Unity - though we may change our minds on that one because I've read it only has a 1 Star safety rating.

There is an adapter kit you can buy with the Urban Jungle that fits the Unity - and several other carriers. It's worth checking out the Mountain Buggy website for the details!

Up until about 6 months, we used the SNS Unity Capsule with the adapter for our Valco Rebel Q Air pram.

Both are fantastic and I would highly recommend.

I have a strider & I really love it tho as mentioned it is rather bulky but they have brother out a compact version which is much more light weight aswell. It's really good being able to have ur baby rear facing & I am happy with my decision. If I was going to go with a buggy I would get a mountain buggy, I was put off Phil & Teds as a few of my friends have them & they seem quite flimsy to me & my friends have had several problems with them. My friends that have mountain buggy's & striders are very satisfied

We have the mountain buggy urban jungle + safe n sound unity. I'm really pleased with it.

I wouldn't reccomend keeping the baby in the unity part for walks... I don't think it's great for them. We just use it getting in and out of the car, quick shopping trips etc. the urban is great for walking though, that's why we chose it.

Capsules are very convenient for getting baby from the car to house etc but shouldn't be used for more than an hour or two at a time. Most capsules have a sunshade so don't let that be the decider - I also believe the lightest are the Maxi Cosi and Chicco Keyfit if that's a consideration.

Keep in mind that you'll be using a Pram for 3 years and a capsule at most 6-9 months. By this I mean don't choose the pram by what the capsule fits on as you need the Pram to tick the boxes of your lifestyle as it's more of an investment long term. Find your perfect prams, then look at the capsule options for those prams and go from there.
