My DD, who is 20 months old, has started pointing to pictures of cows and saying "Mummy". She can say cow, she knows cows go 'mooo' and until recently she would always point at cows and say "moo cow moo".

Do you think I'm right in assuming that she's been taught by someone that cows are "mummy" or would she make this lovely association on her own?

Cheers.

When bf DS2 I would jokingly moo. DS1 made the association all by himself, despite autism tongue.gif

Could that be the case for you?

I'm not able to breastfeed, so wouldn't be anything like that!

Just wanted to add, this was not a one-off. She has pointed out cows on different occasions and said "mummy" ...

is she saying "mummy" to get your attention first, then pointing out the cows maybe?

DD did this once to a picture of an ape. Turns out DH thought it would be slightly amusing to teach her that. Tounge1.gif

Doesn't really seem that way. So, today, for example we were reading a flip book of different animals, so she would say the animal as I flipped the page "dog... cat... fish... birdie... duck... mummy... frog... etc"

What was your reaction the first time? My children would keep doing something if they got what they thought was a funny response.

I think you're over thinking it.

Yeah, you're probably right. It's just one of the little things in a bit list of what's upsetting me today.

Since the first time it happened, I've just been correcting her, but I probably got more upset today which I'm sure helps nothing. Just one of those days, though.

laugh.gif Sorry, but it is pretty funny. Has she heard someone say mummy is a cow?

I guess that's what I'm wondering. I'd find it funny if it maybe came from DH, but since I know it didn't, it's just kinda upsetting me today.

My DD went through this, and it turned out that it was because I pointed out a cow and calf in a book as a Mummy and baby... DH was my first suspect too laughing2.gif Could it be something like this?
