Bit of a spin-off.. just curious how many people go out by themselves, and what do you do?

I love doing things like going to the movies or eating out by myself. I've never been out drinking by myself, and I don't think I would know how.. So if you do, what do you do? Strike up conversation with strangers or just sit by yourself?

I'm curious because I am single & my DD's dad has recently started having her the occasional Saturday night. I have plenty of friends but they are still young & childfree & into the clubbing scene.. whereas I would rather stick rusty forks in my eyes than step foot in a nightclub. I'd rather go for a quiet drink somewhere.

Not deliberately. But over the course of time, I've travelled a lot for work and, short of eating room service every night, I've gone out for dinner or a drink by myself. There is a simple pleasure in enjoying a drink without needing to talk.

If I have a choice, though, I'd much rather go with a friend.

My war paint is Sharpie ink
I generally have the luxury not to need to. I can imagine living in a new place, not yet having made friends to call, and going to see music or theatre or art alone if I couldn't arrange babysitting and take my partner (or if I didn't have one). If you want to make friends you have to start somewhere.

I go to movies alone every now and then.

When I travel for work I eat, have a drink and generally go out and about alone.

Movies, yes.

Shopping, I LOVE shopping by myself. I'd rather shop by myself than with anyone.

Drinking and dinner? No, I'd feel like a loner. unsure.gif

I have been to the odd gig alone, if none of my friends are interested - it always lead to new friends and big nights, maybe because it's a bit liberating?

I love going to movies and shows by myself. I also like having breakfast or lunch alone, but not dinner for some reason.

I would never go to a pub or club unless I had arranged to meet someone there. Come to think of it, I have not been out on the town for years.

Things I love doing by myself:

Movies, actually prefer it than with other people. That is what I would do on a random by myself Saturday night.
Coffee, most definitely and do it all the time. I like having a paper though.
Lunch, I dont mind especially with a book or a paper.
Shopping
Art gallery or museum
Maybe a winebar or civilised bar for a glass of wine but probably only in the afternoon or early evening. I cant imagine being comfortable on a Saturday night.

I love to read so if I do eat on my own I will usually take a book or a newspaper. Ipad would be perfect.

I love shopping by myself too, Essential Bludger.

I think to go out drinking and dancing by yourself is to invite "unwelcome (or maybe not!) interest"

But then I am a super old fuddy duddy like that so flame away biggrin.gif

If a cat doesn't like you, then what's wrong with you?
I go shopping by myself (or mostly with DS), that's about it, I don't go to the movies anyway and I don't go out at night.
